I gotta say... we are loving the Wildflower Spring Gift Set from Lifestyle Crafts! It's got some beautiful shapes in it that I'm sure we'll use over and over!

Here's the projects we came up with for our May Die Cut Club Party a couple weeks ago (time is flying by so quickly!):

First, a card, which once again uses papers from Sweet Threads (I think we're breaking records with all the cards we've made using these papers! LOVE them!) and Core'dinations Cardstock. The lovely flower here is from the Wildflower set, the circle is from a set of nesting dies and the embossing folder is by Lifestyle Crafts as well.
Our second project was a seed pocket- we cut a vellum envelope from the 'treat bag' die (available separately) and embellished it with shapes from the Wildflower Gift Set. It was a tight squeeze, but we managed to spell 'friends' with the Wildflower font and put it on the label shape, which is also from the gift set. Twinery Twine finishes it off with a splash of colour.
Here's the pocket's contents- a simple postcard (with a sentiment about friendship stamped on the back) and a packed of seeds, compliments of Lifestyle Crafts!
It's a really fun set of shapes at a great price- and we still have some available in the store!

Ideas for Organizing (part 2)

I'm back with another great Organizing idea for STICKLES!

First, let me say that I was not aware I was quite this addicted to Stickles LOL, but I suppose it is a collaborated collection between things both mom & I have added... This idea is another inspired by a photo I saw on Pinterest- which traced back to this web page. We've kinda kicked it up a notch by purchasing more of a deluxe sign holder instead of the inexpensive acrylic ones shown in the original post.

So what we did was start with inserting an 8.5x11 sheet of black cardstock into the sign holder, then we attached strips of self adhesive black velcro (the loop part) across it. We then simply stuck pieces that were about .5" wide of velcro (the hook part) onto our bottles of stickles and stuck them on. Pretty fab, eh? We also added loop tape to the back side of the frame and have begun filling it up with more stickles... turns out we had quite a few bottles kicking around ;)
Cost to organize Stickles: about $20

Lastly, there's no real how-to for these, just photos to show you how we're organizing our TWINE spools and STAMPS!

The sugar shakers is another idea found on Pinterest, which I loved! We just need to find one more of them for our fifth spool (These are the five colours we figured we would use the most, so we have them in our Creative Studio. There are 11 colours of Twinery Twine available for purchase by the yard in the store!). It's a great way to keep them from getting tangled up and keep the end easy to find (you just have to make sure you don't cut too close to the opening!).

We're gradually working on transferring our wooden stamps from their piles & pizza boxes (a great, budget friendly way to store stamps!) into the drawers of our Best Craft Organizer. The 1" drawers are perfect for stamps and we've got projects on the go and other random items in the larger drawers (which also hold 12x12 paper). They're not fully organized yet, but I'll probably label them with vinyl cut on my Silhoeutte once we're ready for that.
Cost to organize twine: about $5

Ideas for Organizing (part 1)

It may be hard to believe when you look at the chaos that is my work space... but I *LOVE* organizing and finding the perfect storage solution! Here's a peek at some things we've been organizing lately...

First up- FLOWERS. If you're like me, you've got a rainbow of flowers ready to be the perfect match for whatever project you're doing. I was inspired by photos Tanya posted of her flowers a couple months ago, but was a bit intimidated by the price of those beautiful jars she used :) I've been on the lookout for some glass jars with a wide opening and found these cylinders at our local dollar store. They were available in 3 heights, but we chose to purchase the largest two sizes. We have 10 jars right now, but will probably add 2 more tall ones since there's room for them on our shelf :) Here's a photo of them lined up in a row, looking all pretty... and a close up of the opening, next to a Tim Holtz stamp on a Grid-block for size reference (the opening is approx 4" wide).
Cost for my jars: about $25

Next up is the project I just finished this morning, but I know people who saw me working on this were anxious to see the final product. I'm organizing my COPICS, specifically my Ciao markers. I found a photo from this post on Pinterest and was determined to do it myself!

When I decided to jump in and start collection/colouring with Copics I started with Ciao markers simply because when I looked at purchasing sets of pens it was sooo much more affordable to purchase the slightly smaller Ciao markers. 3 years later, I have around 140 Ciao markers, with a growing collection of Sketch markers keeping them company :) One thing I have loved about the Sketch pens is the numbering on the end of the pens, so I was thrilled to see someone had already gone to the trouble of making a label sheet for Ciaos and that she was sharing it with the world free of charge!

First, I followed the link to the PDF file some wonderful lady at Hop Art Studio (sorry, didn't see her name there!) has created and generously shared! I printed the ciao label sheet on my xpress it blending cardstock (which is my current fave for colouring with my Copics), then followed some of the tips from the original post.
I worked with about a dozen colours at a time, finding them on the print out (it is organized by sets). I coloured the numbers I had- being careful to colour outside the lines ;), then punched them out with a tiny circle punch (mine is 5/16") and used mini glue dots to attach them to my pens. It worked pretty slick and I'm so pleased with the result, which you see here:

Cost to label my Ciaos: around $10
(punch, gluedots & cardstock)

I'll be back tomorrow with a couple more organizational ideas... hope you're inspired by them :)

More Sweet Threads

As promised, I'm back with more card samples featuring Basic Grey's Sweet Threads collection! All of these are quick & easy cards that could be duplicated in under 10 minutes.

This first one features new stamps by Hero Arts & Basic Grey- I inked them up with Distress Ink and misted with a mini mister before stamping (which makes the colours in the Distress Ink much more vibrant!). My image was simply layered and wrapped with twine from the Twinery (loving this stuff)!
Here's another super quick gatefold card- the image on my bellyband here is another Sweet Threads stamp by Hero Arts :)
This card uses 1/2 of a large 'take note' die cut, which was leftover in our POTM kit. I tied some yummy crinkle ribbon around the card and added a tag (sticker) which I had stamped on. A few dots of Liquid Pearls finish it off.
And... one last card (#7!!!) is another banner card, similar to one I shared last time, but on a 3x6 card. The sentiment is from Stampendous.
And there you have it... seven cards you could make with scraps from your scrapbook layout! Happy, scrappy card making ;)

Nifty Fanny

I coloured Fanny, from Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps, a few weeks ago and finished getting her onto a card today! I think she's just nifty :)
Fanny was coloured to coordinate with the Upcycle collection by Cosmo Cricket. My card is pretty simple, but it does include some new dies from Lifestyle Crafts- the loopy borders and one of the flower dies from the new Wildflower Spring Gift Set! I decided to pull out a retro embellishment as well- a bottle cap from my stash (used these all the time several years ago!) which I flattened a bit and added my sentiment.

Hope you're having a nifty day ;)

p.s. I totally planned on entering this card into a challenge, but I can't track it down... if you've seen a month long challenge with a 50's theme this month, could you let me know?

Sweet Threads Cards

Every month after we complete the layout for the Basic Grey Page of the Month class, students are given the opportunity to create a card or two with their scraps and leftover supplies. I think I broke a record this month, though... by Wednesday's class I had 3 card samples and as of today I have 7! I'll share the first three with you today and be back later with images of 3 more (1 is just kinda eh, so it won't be blogged). All materials are Basic Grey's "Sweet Threads" collection, unless otherwise noted.

I try to keep the cards quick & simple, but occasionally introduce a fold that might be new to people... this month, we did a gate fold card:
The embellished belly band & tag were from the sticker sheet. The 'smile' sentiment is by Stampendous. I finished it off with a few dots of Liquid Pearls, by Ranger.

For this card I just arranged strips of paper on my card and trimmed them with a v shape to make a fun banner style card. I added bits of a few border stickers and alpha stickers as well to finish it off. More perfect pearls are here, as well :)

This one is super simple- just a piece of this patchwork style paper and a border sticker. I added flowers & leaves from my flower stash (which I just organized today into big jars-yay!) and another word with the alpha stickers (love the font they used this month!). Here's a close up of my flowers, and the pearl pin I added.

And that's it! Three quick cards using leftover bits from the Page of the Month kit! LOVE this paper collection, it's so fun & colourful!

Friendly Owls

I love it when you finally get around to making a card with a stamp that's been in your stash for a long time... like this great image of owls in a tree by Memory Box Stamps! I bought this stamp well over a year ago, when I first discovered Memory Box as something to remind me to bring them into our store! I ordered the image again when we finally brought Memory Box to Creative Accents in February and finally, I've got a card to show ya!
Here's a close up of the image- I raised up the owls for some extra dimension on this card.
I've used the current CPS Card Sketch for my layout. I started with a kraft base for my card then layered on papers from the fabulous For the Record collection by Echo Park. I've embellished with twine from the Twinery and pearls. I added extra texture by stamping over my image with a 'thank you' definition from Hero Arts and distressing the edges, as well as adding some Tim Holtz Tissue Tape to my background. My main sentiment is also from Hero Arts.

Thanks for reading! Hope you like the card.

Let's Party Challenge: Fiesta Decor

Mom & I decided to do double duty with our May Challenge theme of "Let's Party" and we had some fun putting together decorations for our Scrapbook & Cards Fiesta last weekend!
Each guest got a kraft bag full of goodies, decorarted with colourful tissue paper and a 'fiesta' themed tag (from We R Memory Keepers) tied with ribbon. We die cut triangles to form a paper pennant banner that hung from the ceiling, as well as our food table and Mom even made decorative labels for our water bottles (sorry, no close up shot here!). It certainly added to the party atmosphere! I'll try to be back soon with a few photos from the actual event :)

Thanks to all who came to the Fiesta- we collected 157 pairs of socks for Japan (the basket you see above was overflowing!) and money raised in our 50/50 draw & donated from Champagne Day Spa chair massages covered the shipping costs (we sent 4 boxes which cost about $25 each to send). We'll also be donating $100 to the Red Cross to support Relief efforts which are continuing in Japan.

Special thanks to other local businesses who supported our event and fundraising efforts:
  • Red Tomato Pies
  • Canadian Tire
  • California Sushi
  • ReMax
We wouldn't have had such a fantastic event without their help and yours! We're already looking forward to next year, pencil it in on your calendar for the first weekend in May ;)

All the details (including how to enter) can be found on our Challenge blog! Hope you'll play along this month!

With our annual FIESTA happening this weekend, I took the opportunity to multi-task with this challenge... cuz if the Fiesta isn't a party, I don't know what it is :) I'll be sharing my entries in two parts (and part two was a combined effort between Mom & I!)... starting with part 1 today!

So, here's part one of my challenge entry! This layout is actually going to be a class at the Fiesta and it uses a variety of items that are included in our Fiesta guest's goodie bags! As we were looking for photos to fit the layout, Mom found these fun ones of us together at her 23rd birthday party! She was pregnant with my brother at the time and it looks like a fun family gathering with members of both sides of the family!
Cardstock: Bazzill smoothie
Paper: My Mind's Eye
Embellishments: Die Cuts, Butterflies, Pins & Chipboard letters from Maya Road
Die Cut Borders: Lifestyle Crafts
Embossing Folder (on butterflies): Tim Holtz/Sizzix
Stamps: My Mind's Eye

I used a great sketch I found online... you can see it and a bunch of other good ones here. The chipboard letters were sprayed with a combo of Maya Mist and Perfect Pearls Mist- love them together!

I've got a wee bit more sweetness to share with ya featuring new images from Graphicat Designs! As most of my cards, the design morphed a bit as I put it together, but I like the simple layout and how it showcases Cheri's fab designs. I tell ya, these new drinkin' images have me ready to hop on a plane and go somewhere tropical! Don't see that happening soon... but this card is one I could actually use in the near future though:
... here's a shot of the card with the tag removed from the pocket (pocket & tag dies are from the winter gift set from Lifestyle Crafts).
... and here's a close up of these fabulous new designs! Doesn't that daiquiri look good enough to drink right up? mmmmnnn.... I love daiquiris!

Stamps: Graphicat Designs (digi: strawberry and daiquiri), Hero Arts (flourish background)
Paper: Jenni Bowlin (text) and Bazzill (kraft cardstock)
Ribbon: more of that yummy new crepe ribbon!
Dies: Lifestyle Crafts (Winter Wishes 2010 gift set)
letters: Basic Grey (chip stickers coloured with Copics) & handwritten
Finishing Touches: Copics, Rock Candy Distress Stickles, black journaling pens

Hope you like my sweet, simple card! The strawberry image is available for purchase already, and I'm sure the daiquiri will be up soon :)

Graphicat's May Sketch Challenge!

I'm so in love with the new drinkin' images from Graphicat Designs- so many fun options for colouring and making cards for my girlfriends ;) I had a blast putting together this card for the May Sketch Challenge and I hope my card inspires you to create something pretty, too (and if not that, maybe it'll inspire you to invite me out for margaritas?). Cheri is releasing a pile of fantastic images this month, I'm sure you'll easily find one to love! Here's the card I put together with a few of my favourites!
... as much as I adore the cocktail images, I think my fave new design is the LIMES- I love limes (and the opportunity to play with so many of my lime green Copics!), Cheri has drawn them to perfection here- love 'em!
Cocktails are always better shared with a friend... I love pretty sugar rimmed glasses (hooray for Distress Stickles!), fruity garnishes and paper umbrellas!
Stamps: Graphicat Designs (digi- cocktails & limes), Amuse (sentiment)
Paper: Cosmo Cricket Upcycle (so cheery and girlie)
Cardstock: Bazzill with an edge
Flowers & Bling: Prima & Basic Grey
Ribbon: yummy new Crepe ribbon in the store ;)
Dies: Spellbinders (ovals), Sizzix/Tim Holtz (tattered banners)
Sketch: Graphicat Designs May Challenge Sketch (hope you'll play along!)

The margarita theme I've got going on here is also just in time for our Scrapbook & Cards Fiesta- coming up this weekend at the store! We've been working hard getting ready to celebrate with all of you who are coming :) It's going to be a fabulous National Scrabpooking Day!

Now... hop on over to see what's new at Graphicat Designs, and check out the links on the right side of my blog to see what the rest of the Crafty Catz have been creating with these great new images!

May SOTM by Magenta

It's time once again to introduce you to a new Stamp of the Month here at Creative Accents! Our May SOTM is a gorgeous Dragonfly Music Collage from Magenta!

I knew I needed this stamp the moment I saw it, and Janet, who is helping us out with samples this month, wholeheartedly agreed it was 'the one' ;) We hope you love it as much as we do! Here's a glimpse at our sample board. All samples feature papers from the fabulous Gabrielle collection from Bo Bunny.
First up, we've got a couple pretty cards by Janet. Please visit her blog for all the details on how she created these two cards :)

Next up is a card made by my mom, Julie. She doesn't get to create very often these days because of her cataracts, but she figured this was a technique she could actually do! Mom stamped the image with Versamark ink and brushed Perfect Pearls over it (their latest set of colours, "Cafe" looks gorgeous with these papers), it doesn't need to be set, but we sprayed Kiwi Perfect Pearl Mist over the image for extra shimmer. It's so soft and delicate!
There's some great texture details on this card- flowers, mesh ribbon & embossed vellum are layered together. The sentiment she used is from a Mother's Day stamp set from Cornish Heritage Farms (love this set- so sad they closed their business).

Lastly, here's the card I made! Apologies to Mom, because this just might be her Mother's Day card. Hopefully I'll get a duplicate made that she can actually keep ;) I've used lots of pretty papers on this one- starting base up with the new "Distress" cardstock by Coredinations and Ranger. I've embossed it with a Tim Holtz sheet music embossing folder and sanded it to bring out the core colour.

My image was stamped twice- once on a sheet of patterned paper from BoBunny and once on Neenah cardstock. I coloured the image with some Copics and added Spica glitter pen to the dragonfly head & body. I trimmed the coloured image and layered it onto the background. It's finished off with Stickles glitter on the wings and Glossy Accents on the body. The sentiment is also from CHF and the fabulous charm hanging here is a new one from Pink Paislee, which I love! I added a few beads in the colour scheme to finish it off.
Here's another angle of the main image so you can see another glimpse at the shimmery, 3D dragonfly wings.
Hope you enjoyed a look at our latest SOTM! Members will enjoy saving 35% on their stamp this month, as well as 20% off any other stamps by Magenta they purchase before the 15th of the month.

We look forward to your thoughts and feedback on the stamp and our sample cards- hope your May is a creative month!
