Joy to the World

I was inspired to make a Christmas version of this card that was featured on the Sizzix blog, and I love how it turned out!  I love taking everyday products and giving them a Christmas twist... and this song is a favourite of mine, celebrating the true meaning of Christmas!

Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Here's a great instrumental medley I'm loving this year (it's not exactly traditional!  LOL):

I hope you enjoy a wonderful Christmas holiday with family, friends and loved ones!

Distress Christmas

Probably my favourite class this holiday season was the Distress Christmas Card Class!  It's no secret that the Distress product line is an absolute favourite of mine- the possibilities are endless and the colours are amazing!  I used a lot of Tim Holtz products (Sizzix & Stampers Anonymous) as well as some Memory Box stamps & dies.  Here's a close up (in an alternate shade of green) of one of the cards:
This one went together quickly and has some great texture and shimmer (pearl white embossed background and Distress Stickles on the tree).

We at Creative Accents are officially CLOSED for the Christmas holidays!  We will be CLOSED through Thursday, Dec. 27 and will OPEN again on Friday, Dec. 28 @ 10:30am with some Boxing Week Savings!

We look forward to spending time with family & friends, and wish the same and ALL the blessings of the season!  Merry Christmas!

Simply Handmade Christmas

Here's a few cards from another recent class- this Simply Handmade collection by Simple Stories was VERY popular this year, and so fun to work with- it pairs perfectly with my fave kraft cardstock and wooden embellishments & twine!

I didn't get around to taking close up photos of these cards... instead you get a glimpse of my messy workspace ;)

Jolly Cards

Here's a few fun & simple cards from a 'Holly Jolly Christmas' class we had a few weeks ago!  With all the great papers available, it doesn't take much to make a fabulous card- even at the last minute!

These cards feature papers by BoBunny & Graphic 45, stamps from Hero Arts & Inkadinkado and dies from Sizzix & QuicKutz!

December 12 Tags {x2}

I'm back with another quick post... today to share with you the tags I created following Tim Holtz's inspiration/instruction for the 12 Tags of 2012- our December tag and the bonus tag :)  Both these tags were fabulous and so much fun to make- I made several mini's that coordinated so I have some pretty gift tags to use as well!  Hope you enjoy my take on Tim's tags... I stuck pretty close to his examples!

Today we have Coffee & a Card at the store today... but there's no card, with Christmas just a few days away, we've got a variety of gift cards for you to create!  Stop by and see us- we're open until 8 tonight!

Aspen Frost {Take 2}

Here's a few more simple cards created with leftovers from our Aspen Frost POTM class... so many great bits to make cards with! Mom (Julie) made these three cuties (2 of them use tags from the bonus digital element that comes with POTM membership!):

If you are interested in Page of the Month- spots are available in class Tuesday & Wednesday night this week!  We are also taking sign ups for our next full year, starting in March!  Ask us for the details and the perks of committing to a full year!

All is Calm

In the midst of this very busy final week before Christmas, I thought I'd share some calm with you!  This card features a beautiful image by Sweet Pea Stamps that I coloured with my Copics.  My papers are by My Mind's Eye (LOVE this collection!) as is the washi tape.  I've finished it off with some wooden snowflakes by Crate Paper, paper twine by Tim Holtz and some of my fave Prima bling :)

These papers were so easy to work with, I even did the inside of the card!  Just added a stamped sentiment and some bits of washi tape.

More Spice Than Sugar {December 'tis the Season Challenge}

We've got a new challenge over at our Seriously Creative Challenge Blog and our goal was to make it an easy one for you to play along with! Check out all the details here.

My project has actually been a few years in the making... but it's finally ready to wear this Christmas season ;)  I cut the designs with my Silhouette (Cameo's are in stock NOW if you've got one on your Christmas wish list!) from their smooth Heat Transfer material, ironed it on to a long sleeve t-shirt and finally this year finished it off with some heat activated rhinestones.   I have a similar design done for my sister that says "more sugar than spice" ;)
With any luck, I'll be back soon with more projects... lots to share with you in the days coming up to Christmas!

Dec 2012 SOTM

Can you believe that December is here already?  I opened up my first box from our Advent Exchange this morning (yay!) and am ready to listen to Christmas tunes almost 24/7!  I'm thrilled to be sharing with you our December Stamp Of The Month, a fabulous set of sentiments by Hero Arts!  These whimsical sayings are a perfect finishing touch for your Christmas cards & tags and I had fun working with a guest DT member, our fabulous friend Tanya!   We used the vintage chic City Sidewalks collection by Pink Paislee for our cards this month.

First up is a card I made- I kept it pretty simple with a beautiful Memory Box ornament die, and a sentiment double stamped in green & black.
Here's a quick tag I made as well with an inky Distressed background and a simple touch of bling and holly leaves.  I cut apart the sentiment & rearranged it to fit better in the space I had!  I love that you can do that with clear stamps :)
Tanya let the inspiration flow and created these next three fabulous cards!  This first features a snowman by Kraftin' Kimmie
This one features a Tim Holtz reindeer die cut from a coffee sleeve & glammed up :)
and lastly, the fabulous new Poinsettia die & embossing folder, also by Tim Holtz!
Aren't they pretty?  This sentiment set is bold & beautiful, I think it'll find it's way onto a lot of my projects this season!

Wishing you and yours a wonderful Advent Season... hope December is full of wonderful, creative days!

Wonderful Wood & Candy Canes

Today is your last chance to play along with our Wonderful Wood Challenge! I'm pretty late sharing this card with you... it's been done for a while, but things have been busy and unfortunately I've been neglecting the blog. The good news is I have a ton of projects to share in the coming weeks :)

I made this card with the fabulous Candy Cane girl from Saturated Canary and Handmade Holiday papers by Simple Stories.  My wooden element is these fantastic wooden snowflakes by Studio Calico and finished it off with silk ribbon and lots of glitter glue.  And looking at this now, I realized I added some bling after taking this photo.  LOL gonna have to take a new one and update!
Here's a close up of My CandyCane girl with her glittery wings :)
Hope you'll play along with us!  Wood really is wonderful ;)

Merriest Wishes

Merriest Wishes to you!  I'm happy to have a card to share with you today that I made at a recent crop.  A few of us had a little friendly competition (heehee) to make a card using the same sketch and images we'd already coloured.  We had a great time and I'm proud to say I WON.  LOL.  It was so much fun, we've decided to have races like this at future crops, too... I'm even working on creating a trophy for the winner to take home with them!  It should be a hoot!

My 'winning' card features the beautiful Candy Cane image from Saturated Canary (returning soon to Creative Accents- reserve yours online!) and papers (plus Washi Tape) by My Mind's Eye.  My ribbon is our Inkable Crinkable ribbon coloured with three shades of red Distress Stains, and the snowflakes are glittery chipboard shapes from Pink Paislee (so pretty!).    These papers have some great collage style pages, so it was quick & easy to do the inside of my card to- I just stamped a sentiment (Hero Arts) and added some washi tape!
I made another card with the same image and different papers, which I'll share with you sometime soon!  Have a fabulous day!

Autumn Gift Card Holder {featured by Ranger}

I have the privilege of being featured again on Ranger's website today!   You can see full instructions there for this card I made, featuring an autumn gift card holder made from a tag.  I used lots of fabulous autumn colours, Dylusions & Distress products as well as the texture tread that was our October SOTM!  The colours and patterns were inspired by my fave Starbucks gift card :)

Here's another angle of my project, with the gift card removed so you can get a closer look:
I had a great time combining lots of great Ranger products here, but it can also be really quick & easy to make a gift card holder from a #8 tag like this!

12 Tags of November

Saturday was our monthly 12 Tags Drop In here at the store- we had a great time creating our tags inspired by Tim Holtz's November Tag!  We didn't have the stamps he used, but we got the technique in there and had some inky fun :)  I love the autumn colours of my tag.  Most products are Tim Holtz/Ranger but my sentiment stamp is from Hampton Art and the wooden birds are from Crate Paper.
As always, there are detailed instructions on Tim's blog- I encourage you to check it out and play along, there's some fun techniques here!

The addition of wooden birds makes this a perfect project for our November Seriously Creative Challenge, too! We'd love to have you play along with us this month!  See the details here.

Poppies to Remember...

Paper: Basic Grey, Die: Memory Box, Embossing Folder: Sizzix, Stamp: Penny Black, Ink: Ranger

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

- John McCrae

November SOTM!

Our Stamp of the Month is a gorgeous Notes & Boughs collage by LaBlanche stamps!  These stamps are unique in that they are made from silicone and mounted on a foam block, so you can stamp easily with minimal pressure.  Here's what we made with it... all cards feature Echo Park's This & That Christmas paper collection!  Love it :)

Julie (mom) made this card by embossing the image in brown on a wood grain patterned paper, she then used Faber Castel Big Brush markers to add some simple colouring.  The sentiment is by Hero Arts.

For this next one I stamped with black Archival Ink onto pearlescent white cardstock.  The image was then coloured with Distress Markers, including the entire background with antique linen to soften the white.  The sentiment was cut from one of the patterned papers :)
We wanted to do at least one card that wasn't specific to Christmas, so we stamped the boughs on a #5 tag which had been inked with Distress Ink!  The sentiment is by Hero Arts.
This final card features an image that has been coloured directly on the rubber with Distress Markers!  I love the soft effect it gives to detailed stamps like these.  Sentiment by Hero Arts.
All four of these also feature a CLUE as to the theme of our Seriously Creative November challenge... :)  Watch for details coming up on the challenge blog this weekend!

Black Poppies

Happy Monday! I'm here with a quick post to share with you a simple, yet striking card featuring Perfect Pearls! Mom created this card by stamping with Versamark (or Perfect Medium) ink on black cardstock (we love Bazzil's Swiss Dot texture!) and brushing Perfect Pearls over it- in this case, shades of pink & green.  A large brush is used to remove excess powder and then a very light mist of water sets the pigments.
The effect is so pretty, and so hard to photograph... but here's another angle so you can see the shine a bit more!  Check out the ribbon she added... it's amazing how perfectly it matches, with green & pink interwoven together!
Perfect Pearls are really amazing on black cardstock!  If you missed my Technique Tag class featuring them and want to learn more, I've got something spooky in store for Coffee & a Card this Thursday featuring them!  Hope to see you in the store then, if not sooner :)
