Hello Luscious (Basic Grey cards)

Hello Luscious is a cheery collection from Basic Grey that just happens to be the featured line for our April POTM (Page of the Month) class. Here's some cards I made with some of the leftover materials after making my layout! This first card was really simple- the papers I used are the two sides of the same paper- I love this technique for quick cards. Just measure a piece big enough to cover the full card front (I left an 1/8" border all the way around), cut it off center and flip one portion. The "Hello" is from the title stickers in our kit and the faux ribbon border is the 1/2" we trimmed from our paper.

This next card is also heavy on the scraps, with the addition of a sticker and some flowers from my stash with a fun brad which was also extra in our kit. I love how cheery this card is and will probably make a few similar ones with other scraps I have leftover from my projects!

Here's a closer peek at the textures on this card... fun, right?
Both cards were inspired by card layouts in the new Card Maps Today book, which is still available at the store for just $9.95. (The second card is hardly recognizable... but it was inspired, none the less!). We've got one more group of ladies who'll be doing our POTM class today (Saturday) so perhaps I'll get a chance to put together a few more cards after that class ;)

Meet Lily Lemon

I've been collecting a few random 'lemon' quotes on Pinterest lately... I didn't mean to, but it was hard to resist, especially since I had this new image just waiting to be inked up and coloured!

We've all heard the classic quote, (which happens to come with this stamp from Kraftin' Kimmie, by the way) "When live gives you lemons, make lemonade" but how about:

When life gives you lemons, throw them at someone.

When life gives you lemons, squeeze them in people's eyes.

If life gives you melons, you may be dyslexic.

Time will tell which will end up on the inside of this card... there's really something to fit every mood ;)
I've kept this card pretty simple, following the current sketch by CPS, which is also sponsored by Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps! I'm using brand new papers from Pink Paislee's Daily Junque collection, which had a gorgeous yellow paper I had been waiting for! This card is embellished simply with silk ribbon and some straight pins from Maya Road.

I am entering this in Kraftin' Kimmie's "Make it Frilly" challenge. (If you saw this last night when I posted... yes, I had to re-take photos this afternoon... last nights 'flashy' ones were so washed out it bugged me!) Here's another angle at my frilly silk ribbon- isn't it delicious? Makes me want to go eat some lemon cheesecake or something ;) This also gives a zoomed look at Lily's eyes, which I tweaked a bit to add eyelids with glittery eye shadow.
Anywho, hope you enjoyed meeting Lily! If you've got any more 'if life gives you lemons" quotes, I'd love to hear about them in the comments here!

p.s. There's just a couple days left for you to join our April Challenge! If you've been thinking spring, chances are your project will fit right in- please join us!

Blue Bird

Happy Tuesday! I adore four day weekends... they let me feel like I'm completely bypassing those icky Monday blues ;) I hope you had a beautiful Easter weekend and saw some sunshine, like we did here!

Here's a simple card we created at a recent Die Cut Club Party, featuring dies by Tim Holtz/Sizzix. It was a tricky one to photograph, but I love the soft, airy feel of it... looks like spring!

This card was inspired by one I saw in a magazine recently... I think it was an ad in the latest issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today. I loved their use of a hanging birdcage and figured I could do the same with the new Movers & Shapers dies that had just arrived!
Here's a close up of our birdcage and bird- both cut from Grunge paper. The cage has been hung from a thread (attached with Tissue Tape on the top and bottom inside the card) and painted with silver paint. The bird was inked with Distress Ink and has some Distress stickles spread on it for sparkle. Both the rose and lace are sold in the store, the patterned paper is by American Crafts.
This was a fairly simple card, but it looks so pretty sitting open on a shelf! Hope it helps you to beckon the sun ;)

p.s. If you're a member of our Die Cut Club, Sizzix dies, like the ones by Tim Holtz we've used here, are Buy 1 Get 1 50% off until the end of April! It's a great time to join our Die Cut Club! Stop by the store for full details soon :)

Happy Easter!

Hope the Easter weekend has been full of blessings (and chocolate)!

We've been enjoying a relaxing time with family and are looking forward to one more day to relax... see you back in the store when we open again on Tuesday!

Flutter by Butterflies...

Those big fluffy things floating down from the sky the other day? That wasn't snow... it was butterflies. It wouldn't snow in April, would it?

Here's some simple cards I made recently that feature butterflies. Spring is coming. Really.

This first one was a project at a recent Die Cut Club meeting- it features the new Movers & Shapers butterflies by Tim Holtz for Sizzix. I love the simplicity of the design, which was inspired by a card one of my new fave designers, Lucy Abrams. She has a real gift for making cards that are both simple and striking (and she seems to love working with kraft as much as I do)!
This next card was featured as one of our Coffee & a Card projects- the butterflies are on this paper from Pink Paislee. The layout is inspired by a sketch in the new Card Maps Today book. We've used a loopy border die from Lifestyle Crafts and a sentiment by Hero Arts and finished it off with some pearls- a fab straight pin and a string of flat backed pearls.

Last I've got a card I made with scraps left over from our Basic Grey POTM class featuring Hopscotch, with the addition of a couple small stamps it turned out really fun!
I love the springy feel of this card, and I'm entering it in the current Basic Grey Challenge.

So... if you happen to see some fluffly looking stuff in the sky, remember- it's just butterflies. Spring is just around the corner ;)

Today I'm feeling the blog love... found out I've gotten two awards from Carla- it's just taken me a few days get the rules followed here! ;)

I can't say I've ever done up a post about blog awards, but I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to share with you some of my fave blogs to visit online!

Have a Splendiferous Day!

Here's another card featuring a new Sarah Kay (Stampavie) stamp, "Josephine cuddling her pet cat Kiki", and fabulous new Crate Paper, Emma's Shoppe! My sentiment is from Amuse- it's been on my wish list for a while so I thought I'd better grab it now, since they are no longer selling their stamps in stores!

I've used the current sketch from The Sweet Stop Sketch Challenge Blog, which Tanya introduced me to this weekend... they have some gorgeous sketches, I'll be visiting them again for sure!

Other details on this card: flower by KaiserKraft, die cuts from Sizzix & Spellbinders, crepe ribbon (coloured with Distress Stains), brads from Stampabilities, coloured with Copics, of course :) Hope you like her!

Easter Egg Hunt!

It's time for our annual Easter Egg Hunt! We've hidden plastic Easter Eggs around the store... find them and you can SAVE! Here's how it works:

1. Find two Easter Eggs & open them up to reveal the savings!

2. Select which egg you would like to redeem on your purchase today.

3. Re-hide the egg you don’t choose!

The Easter Egg hunt ends on Thursday. We will be CLOSED from Friday, April 22 through Monday, April 25. We will re-open on Tuesday, April 26. Have a blessed Easter holiday!

And speaking of eggs... here's some that we decorated up this year!

These eggs were created by covering plastic Easter Eggs with Tissue Tape by Tim Holtz, then inking them up with Alcohol Ink. We got completely inky doing it, but we sure had fun! It was a great test for the Inkssentials™ Craft Scrubbie by Ranger.

I really don't mind working with inky fingers (I kinda love it, actually), but I got a bit carried away with my ink here (heehee) and found I was transferring colours I didn't want onto new eggs. The craft scrubbie worked brilliantly! Here's what Ranger has to say about it, "The Inkssentials Craft Scrubbie cleaning bar is the gentle but effective way to easily remove inks, paints, glues, and mediums from your hands. Used with liquid soap and water, the Craft Scrubbie makes quick clean up after a crafting session of inked-up, paint-stained or glue-covered hands."

Sweet Marguerite

Our Seriously Creative Design Team had some crop time last night as a way to say good-bye to our Design Team member, Chris, who is moving away this week. We laughed a LOT and I think all of us even managed to complete a project or two!

I finally took time to photograph a few recent projects, which I'll share with you over the coming days... but today I'm sharing my fave of the cards I made last night! I've coloured (with Copics, of course) a new image from Stampavie (Sarah Kay) called "Marguerite taking Ruben for a walk" and paired her with my fave of the new collections by Crate Paper, Portrait.

Aren't those papers delicious? Did you notice my sentiment? I stamped it (a fave of mine from Hero Arts) onto a mini calendar from the paper collection- this card will go in my stash for an upcoming May birthday :) I cut out Marguerite from one of the new Spellbinder's nesting labels (thanks Cheri) which will now go to the top of my wish list cuz it's pretty fabulous! The layout was inspired by the current Sketch Saturday layout- hope you can see the resemblance ;) I love giving a twist to sketches!

Socks for Japan

Some of you noticed that one of the ways you can earn extra grand prize tickets at our upcoming Fiesta (yes! tickets are available- we'd love to have you join us!) is by bringing in pairs of socks to send to Japan. And if you noticed that, you've probably been wondering what is up with that!?

You can see the full details on the Socks for Japan Website, but I'll try to sum up the "why socks?" question for you here...
"All human beings are comforted by a fresh, clean pair of socks. Other advantages socks offer this operation: they’re light, their sizes are easy, they don’t break, people need lots of them in disastrous times away from home, and people can keep them forever to remember that somebody from far away cared."
We can make a small difference and brighten someone's day by doing something as simple as sending SOCKS to them. This effort is a small way that we can personally help. Socks should be new, clean and packaged in a ziploc baggie (one pair per bag). There are details on the website about including notes in your package (and we're lucky to have a customer with some Japanese skills to help us out with that- thanks Sabena!) and you can include photos or a simple handmade card as well!

See photos of sock delivery here if you need a little extra encouragement to help us out! We will be collecting socks until after our Fiesta (May 6-7) and will be packaging them to send off after that. Everyone is invited to contribute to this cause, but Fiesta attendees will earn draw tickets for every two pairs of socks they bring in!

We'll also be donating $5 from every Fiesta ticket purchased to the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan, as well as having a 50/50 draw at the Fiesta where the winner will get 50% in store credit to spend and the other 50% will go towards either the Red Cross or will help cover postage to send our socks to Japan!

So, stop by the store to pick up your Fiesta tickets today, and then go out and buy some socks! Together, we can make a difference... and have some FUN doing it!

*UPDATE* We've been informed that they would prefer we focus on socks for adults (they've got LOTS for kids already) and that we make them COLOURFUL, not plain white, as much as possible! Happy sock shopping!

April Challenge Time!

It's time for another Seriously Creative Challenge her at Creative Accents and we've got some exciting things for you this month... First up, we have set up a brand new monthly CHALLENGE BLOG where you can see all the details about this challenge and future challenges as well! We also are thrilled to be welcoming Tanya back to our Design Team as our Challenge Coordinator. She's got some fantastic ideas lined up for y'all and we look forward to monthly challenges with you every month!

So... our challenge for April is an Inspiration challenge- we want you to create a project inspired by this photo:
You can interpret the challenge however you like, but you can enter your name twice in our prize draw if you use a tag on your project! Full details (including prize info) are up on the challenge blog, so we won't keep ya waiting any longer before showing you our projects!

Here's a tag created by Julie. She took the springy colours and the four tags as inspiration for her tag with four 'candy bunny' shapes from Lifestyle Crafts.
The bunnies are all covered in Glitter Ritz (warm highlights) and they look good enough to eat! The tag, label and embossing folder are all by Tim Holtz/Sizzix. Papers are by Basic Grey and the ribbon was coloured with yummy new Distress Stains! She finished off the tag with some bling :) Here's a close up of the bunnies- they're so pretty and sparkly!
Next up is a project by Leslea- she's decorated up an adorable wooden letter for Easter! She was inspired by the colours in our inspiration photo to and used glittery paper from Best Creations. I love that she's glued some real jelly beans on this cutie! So fun!Lastly, here's my (Tara's) project! It has been a long time since I created a scrapbook page that wasn't for a class (though this could turn into a class if people are interested...) and I had a fabulous time with this one! I came across a sketch with a tag on it on Pinterest (my new fave place to hang out online!) and figured I could use it as the tag element on my project. I love the variety of colours in our inspiration photo and brought that variety in with the flowers on my layout, which showcases some great photos I found of me & my Grandma from years gone by...
I've used the fabulous "Once Upon a Springtime" collection by Graphic 45 for my layout. I love these papers! My layout includes two border dies & an alpha from Lifestyle Crafts, tag & butterfly dies from Tim Holtz/Sizzix and one of my fave new products, Distress Stains, to colour white flowers and crepe ribbon.

Here's some close ups... this one shows my tag accent with yummy ribbon, butterflies & a tag using a facet embellishment (Tim Holtz) with an image from my papers.
Here's a little zoom at the lettering, which I coated with Crackle Accents for shine & texture.
Lastly, here's some of those yummy flowers coloured with Distress Stains & some shimmer from Perfect Pearl Mists. The pearls you see are straight pins we have in the store (some of which are included in the prize pack for this challenge).
And that's what we were inspired to create for the new April Challenge! Be sure to check out what the rest of the design team came up with, and please plan to play along with us!

Graphicat Designs Grand Opening Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Graphicat Designs Grand Opening Blog Hop! I'm thrilled to be participating with the talented group of ladies who are designing for this new company and I'm excited for all of you to see the fabulous stuff Cheri has in store for us!

If you're doing the hop, you should have arrived here from visiting Chris at her blog... otherwise, you'll want to start at the beginning and check out Cheri's card! We're all featuring Cheri's new April Challenge sketch and new digi images from Graphicat Designs on our cards. I confess, this is my very first time actually colouring up a digi image. I just love rubber stamps too much ;) but I know Cheri has plans to head that direction and I can't wait! She's a very talented lady and I'm so excited to see where her business will take her (hopefully it won't be long before you can buy her rubber stamps at Creative Accents)!

I chose to colour up the "Coffee Cup Cat" image and a sentiment that is just perfect with it, and oh so true...
I've used papers from Basic Grey's Curio collection, bling from Prima and a fabric rose & ribbon which I coloured to match with new Distress Stains & Perfect Pearls Mist- so fabulously fun to work with! My kitty's eyes are sparkling with a touch of Spica Glitter Pen and some Glossy Accents.

We hope you can play along with this month's sketch challenge- you'll find all the details at the end of the hop on the Graphicat Designs blog! But before you start creating your own masterpiece, you'll wanna finish this Blog Hop and check out the rest of the Crafty Katz Creations! Hop on over and see what Carla has created... it's sure to be fabulous & fun!

p.s. Of course as part of this hop there will be prizes!! Cheri will award digi stamps to 3 commenters and Copic Paper to 3 followers. And perhaps some other surprises as never know! Happy Hopping!

April Stamp of the Month!

It's been a long time since we had a new shipment of stamps in the store from Stampabilities, so it's great fun to have a new assortment of House Mouse, Happy Hoppers & Gruffies in stock again! This month Cheri and I had the fun of playing with "Will Knit for Friends" which makes me smile every time I look at it! I hope it'll do the same for you- here's our sample board:
When I selected this image, I was looking for an Easter image that wasn't limited to just Easter... what do ya think? Did I succeed? I love that this image can also be used for baby cards and as an all purpose card for friends. These little chicks in their sweaters look to me like they'd be comfortable here in the chilly Cariboo, as well ;) As you can see, Cheri and I both used papers from Basic Grey's "Hello Luscious" collection for all of our samples. It has such cheery colours and patterns!

This first card is actually the last one to get finished. I decided to ink up just the chick image and stamp him alone on an egg shape. I'm not sure how well it shows up, but after die cutting all the egg shapes I brushed some clear 'Rock Candy' Crackle Paint over them for a fun, but subtle texture. They're layered on grunge paper for a bit of extra stability. The sentiment I used is from Whipper Snapper :)
These next two fantastic cards were created by Cheri- you'll see them soon, along with a few more details on her blog. This stamp is perfectly suited to larger cards, like Cheri tends to create. I love how cutting them out in different shapes can completely change the look of your card!
The soft colours on this next card are so perfect for a baby card, don't you think? Love it!
... and lastly, here's another card I created that I thought would also be great for a baby card. For this card I did not ink the single chick so I could trim my image to a square. My scalloped border is from the Tim Holtz Sizzix die and the stick pins are such a fun embellishment that we just got a big shipment of recently. I left these white, but they'd be easy to colour with Copics or Alcohol Ink! The sentiment on this card is a sticker by Crate Paper.
... and that's our April Stamp of the Month! We hope you like it and are inspired by our cards. The SOTM is always available to members at 35% off the regular price. Occasionally there are extras available for others to purchase, but unfortunately there aren't any to spare this month! Ask us for details how you can sign up next time you're in the store!

We'd always love your comments and would LOVE to know what you think. Is there a fave House Mouse stamp in your collection? I think my personal fave is "Java Jumpers"... and oldie but a goodie that I bought years ago when they were being made by another company. I was thrilled to see it's still available, so I brought it in with this shipment!
