Bring on 2015!

 2015... bring it on!

Things have been pretty quiet creatively for me, especially for the last few months of 2014!  I recently did a little bit of shopping at Betty's with some Christmas cash and I picked up some creative fuel (40% off!) for the new year.  I didn't get any Christmas cards made this year, but I have a few cards I need to send in the new year, so I think some may be New Year cards :)  This one features a few of the new supplies I purchased- a fun stencil and more Distress Stain Sprays.

I made this card over the past couple of days, determined to play along with the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge- tic-tac-toe (I used bow-stencil-die or punch) and I'm squeaking it in before tonight's deadline!
I'm in love with how the numbers came together!  They were die cut with a Tim Holtz alpha/number die, painted with bundled sage distress paint (also one of my new stain spray colors, used on the background) then I dropped some antique bronze spray stain onto it and spread it around with my heat tool.  Once it was nicely marbled-ish, I topped them with Crackle Accents and left them overnight to dry (which had me squeezing in some card making before work in the morning to finish things up!  Yay!).  They turned out pretty cool I think!
Recognize this retro stamp set?  I thought it worked well for NYE, and squeezed a couple of the stamps onto my card... it's on OLD set from PSX, do you remember them?  oldies but goodies :)

All in all, it's a pretty simple card, but it's the last one I made in 2014 and it's inspiring me to get in a whole lot more creative time in 2015!  One of my few resolutions is to make that a priority, especially now that I'm working again.  Along with that should come some more blogging too... so I hope to see you back here soon!  Wishing you all the best as you ring in the new year.  Thanks for visiting!

Autumn Wonder {happy thanksgiving y'all}

I love autumn... the colors here have been stunning this year (though we've transitioned to primarily brown lately as temperatures drop!) and I'm a bit disappointed I haven't had a chance to create autumn projects like the colors have inspired me to do!  It's my favourite time of the year, and it's so great to live somewhere that it lasts more than 6 weeks or so :)

Here's a tag I made with some Ranger/Tim Holtz stamps, stencils & dies and a fun embellishment by Prima!  Not much to tell you, I was mostly playing around with new stencils and the ink that was on my table... there's a bit of texture paste for fun dimension!
it's the most wonderful time of the year... hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving (or Thursday for friends and family in Canada! LOL) and enjoy the wonders of the season... winter will be upon us soon enough (if it isn't already wherever you are!)

Watercolor Thanks

Just a quick post to share a simple card with you today!  Mom found me a little vintage book of psalms and hymns and the pages are a fabulous size for cards... I created a watercolor layer with Assorted Distress products (including the new stain sprays) and layered a page with a leaf die cut over it. I finished it simply with some linen ribbon, a stick pin and a sentiment!  I think I'll be trying a similar layout with some Christmas shapes soon... Have a creative day!
*updated with a larger photo... note to self, don't bother with photos from the blogger app!

layered stencils with Distress Paint and ink and sprays... such fun to mix and match and play together with these products!  After creating my background, I decided to add this gorgeous bloom girl from Prima and painted a few details with distress ink and a wet paintbrush, added some Prima flowers & a die cut word to finish it off simply.  part of me wanted to add more... but I kinda love it!  Looks peaceful to me :)

have a great day!

Life gets busy, but I made some tags!

I'm aware of the fact that it's been almost a month since I've blogged here, and let me tell you, it's not the only thing I've missed lately!  During the fabulous visit with my family from BC, I got a new job which started shortly after they left.  It's part time work, which I'm very grateful for as there is a big learning curve, partly due to the fact that I haven't worked since before we got married (15 months?) and partly because it's completely different & new for me (pharmacy tech trainee).  I'm really enjoying the job and the people I work with and all the learning that is happening, and I'm feeling very blessed by God for this opportunity!

As I mentioned though, life has gotten busy and it's taking me some time to adjust to working again.  I'm happy but exhausted after almost every shift I work, so it's taking a toll on the housework (ahem) and tonight is the first I've made it to my studio desk in a few weeks!  I did make a few tags before all the busy, so today I'm getting around to taking pictures and starting to share with you again :)  Here's one of them:

I've used a Julie Nutting doll stamp by Prima together with some papers from the Coffee Break collection, a few flowers, bling & a wooden button.  I did some simple stenciling & stamping in the background, using some fun new projects from my Prima Ambassador demo kit.  It's a pretty simple tag, but I had fun putting together some items from my stash with the products I was sent to demo with.  I'm looking forward to hopefully getting some demos scheduled at our local Hobby Lobby store soon!
Thanks for stopping by to see me again, sorry it's been so long!  Hope to see you again soon... I've got more tags to show you :)

A Closer Look at Mixed Media Serendipity Notebook & Cards

On Saturday I had the fun of teaching my Mixed Media Serendipity Notebook & Card Class at Betty's :) My mom, dad & sister are here visiting from BC and Mom joined in the fun at the class! The group had a great time with paint and ink and texture and shine... and turned out some beautiful projects!  I'll be scheduling this one again sometime, so if you missed it be sure to let either me or the girls at Betty's know & we'll make sure you can make it next time!
Here's a closer look at the three cards I made using the 'serendipity' pieces of our cardstock and the adorable Scribbly bird stamps by Dina Wakeley:

I also demonstrated an alternate color scheme with shades of red, here's how they came out:
a little close up of the texture and shine on the notebook:

Here's the cards my mom made in class:
and here's what happened when I was attempting to photograph them... LOL  Needless to say, I didn't get close ups of the cards, since it was officially play time according to my kitten!
I wanted to get these pictures posted sooner so the ladies who were at the class could get a closer look to finish up their cards, but we've been busy with family time and Thanksgiving celebrations here :)  It's been so fabulous having them here with me, I'm sure going to miss them when they leave this week... but hopefully it won't be too terribly long before I can head north to visit them as well!

I'm a Prima Ambassador!

I'm excited to finally get to share with y'all that I am one of the newest Prima Ambassadors!  It's a thrill to be a part of this group of creative ladies who will be doing demos for Prima in Hobby Lobby stores as well as a some local stores!

I'm anxiously awaiting my intro box of goodies so I can set out and offer FREE make & take projects in stores close to home here in North Carolina!  As soon as I have my demos scheduled, I'll share the info here on the blog!

I know things have been quiet on the blog, and life is about to get a whole lot busier for me soon... but creative ideas are flowing and I have my MOM here visiting me (as well as my Dad and sister!) and we have some plans for creative play which I look forward to sharing with you :)  We picked up a few goodies today when we stopped by Betty's to shop & have tea with Dyan Reaveley and are in love with the new Coffee Break collection by Prima... so cute!)

Typography Close Ups!

Well that was fun!  I taught my Graphic 45 Typography Altered Notebook class yesterday and I think it's safe to say a fun time was had by all!  Here's some close ups of the projects... touches like colored texture paste, glitter, perfect pearl mist and flowers made these projects stand out!

We created two cards:

 And altered a notebook:

Here's a recap of the group of projects together:

Lots of fun!  I love working with Graphic 45 collections... will hopefully experiment with some of the new ones for more future classes :)

Altered Notebooks & Cards...

Great news- my mojo seems to have returned!  I've been creating more lately, but as you may have noticed the blogging has fallen behind... just working on getting my groove in synch and I have some exciting things coming, which I promise to share with you!

Today, I thought I'd just share a photo of the projects I've got planned for a class coming up THIS SUNDAY at Betty's Creative Studio in Greensboro!  I absolutely love the Typography collection by Graphic 45, and the theme of it seemed to pair perfectly with my idea to do some Altered Notebooks & matching cards!
I've mixed things up adding some sparkle, texture and shine... and I promise if you join me you will have fun scraps to take home and keep creating as well!

Contact Betty's if you can come!  2pm on Sunday... join me for some creative time while my husband watches football :)

Summer Brights Box

My mojo has been MIA lately... so I decided to give myself a night of no pressure creative time.  All I knew was that I would use stencils and paste so I could play along with The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge :) Since money has been tight, I don't have many new purchases to play with... but I did purchase texture paste and a few colors of Dina Wakley's paints after teaching some recent classes, so I figured they would be my starting point!  These Sizzix dies are another summer purchase that I've been having some fun with!

This project started as a tag, but once I finished it I decided to keep going, playing with more paints and such on a 5x7 piece of cardstock.  I enjoyed just playing without a goal in mind as far as finished project, and it definitely got me experimenting with products (even some glitter, which is not the norm for me!  I mixed it with Rock Candy Crackle Paint... kinda fun!).  When I was done with this, I had a 'thing' that I wasn't sure what to do with...  but I noticed a small, sturdy box (from my very first julep nail polish order!) that was just slightly smaller than 5x7.  I painted it up to match the front, which I reinforced a bit and adhered to the box.  Bonus- the filling inside the box is the same turquoise color :)

I took a bunch of photos so hopefully you can get a good look at the textures and cheery colors.  Hard to believe summer is almost over... this project was a fun 'last hurrah' before I move on to some autumn colors!

I'm not sure I captured it very well, but I even played with some beeswax on the background for my first time :)  Here's one final photo that shows the size of the box I attached it to:
The box allows me to display it as a stand up 'canvas' of sorts... probably in our wanna-be beach theme bathroom ;)

There's still time for you to play along with the stencils & paste challenge- it's monthly, which I love.  It's a new blog, so show them some love!  Now that I'm done, I can go check out what everyone else has been doing!

Trust in the Lord

I was commissioned to make some cards featuring some Scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6. After much searching online for inspiration, contemplating fonts or cutting out words with my Silhouette... I went through my stamps and discovered a stamp set which included this verse! The set is a discontinued one by Cornish Heritage Farms (most of their stamps were discontinued a few years ago when they closed, though some of their most popular ones are back with the new ownership- many as digi stamps too!) Anyways, finding the stamp helped a lot, and I think I'll be playing around with the others in this set in the near future as well!

I apologize for the photos in this post... I snapped them at the last minute before delivering them ;)

I applied some Ranger Texture Paste to a tag, then inked it up and stamped on the textured panel.  All other stamps are by Tim Holtz.  The butterflies are favourites of mine!  I had fun mixing colors and textures on the chipboard heart.
Here's a second card in a different color scheme:
And lastly, here's a smaller, simpler card:
I had fun making these, and am in constant need of a reminder from this verse!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6

Mixed Media Canvas Class

I had such a fun time last week with my Mixed Media Canvas Class at Betty's Creative Studio!  It was a small group, but they all had a good time and gave me permission to share pics with you from the day... I meant to do it sooner (I've been a bad blogger!), but here's a few, starting with the canvas that was on display in the store prior to class:

Stacked paper flowers... every one unique & beautiful!

Here's the finished products everyone created!

Peggy created in Purple & Red (that's Betty photo-bombing!)
Cyndi & Meghan both went with a gorgeous blue background
And Teena created some fab textures in purple... hm... it matches her shirt!  LOL
Since it was a small class, I made another canvas too, to show off the alternate color option and techniques as we went along...
 Some close ups...

I've got another class scheduled for next Sunday, August 24- hopefully I'll have a few more students :)  I'm really enjoying getting to know new people here in classes and look forward to more!  so, if you came to one of my classes and you enjoyed yourself, please tell your friends and come back for more!
