Basic Grey Page of the Month- Join us!

We're excited to have so many new ladies joining our POTM class this year and we wanted to let you know that we have just a couple spots left for this next round! This year long series of classes, designed by Basic Grey, has been a highlight in our store through 2010 and we look forward to starting again in March 2011!

This class requires a 12 month commitment. The cost is just $27 a month. Each month includes a fabulous kit including some of the latest products by Basic Grey! You can choose to commit to come to class each month or to pick up your kit and do it at your own pace at home or in our studio. The cost is the same either way, as there is no additional class fee for POTM.

Each month's class will include:

  • a double page layout created with your Basic Grey class kit
  • a card, designed by Tara, using some of the extras in your kit
  • lots of extra products to take home!
  • a 10% discount on all other Basic Grey products on the day of your class!
  • an email approx 1 week prior to the class showing you a peek of the upcoming layout so you can select your photos in advance if you wish
  • Class participants will have the option of purchasing a Basic Grey album at a very special price! (We'll give you these details at your first class!)
We've nearly doubled the size of our POTM class this year, but have room for a couple more people to join us at our Saturday class- once a month at 11am. If this sounds interesting to you, please let us know! Our first Saturday class will be March 26. Class dates for the next 6 months can be see on our online calendar here.

I didn't manage to keep up to date with sharing photos of our layouts last year, but here's a sampling for you of the ones I haven't shared yet...

Aren't they great? As you can see, we'll be creating layouts in a variety of themes and styles, each of which features some of the latest products from Basic Grey! This class is a fabulous opportunity to get some scrapbooking done (a double page layout every month), learn some new techniques and get yourself out of a creative rut! Not to mention that we have a lot of fun hanging out with a group of ladies once a month :) If you want to see more, you can click on the tag labeled 'POTM' at the bottom of this post!

Valentine Mini Book

I wanted to share this with you yesterday, but somehow deleted the image and had to wait until I got to the store to upload the photo again!
This little project was inspired by Tim Holtz, though the colours and general feel of this book is a long stretch from Tim's vintage project! Tim calls this a 'W' book, and while I've made one before, I love the addition of tissue tape holding it all together! The book is just 3x3 and was made from one sheet of 12x12 paper. If you visit Tim Holtz he's got a video showing how to do it. I wanted to try this out featuring the 6x6 designs on the back of the We R Memory Keepers papers- it worked great and gave me different designs on each page! Quick & fun- hope you can find time to make one yourself :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Here's some quick Valentine's Day projects I put together this weekend, all of them featuring the Be My Valentine collection by We R Memory Keepers. I love the bright, cheery colours in these papers and I adore this company's papers because so many of them come with mini versions of their designs in 6x6 on the back side. You can pick and choose your faves and create your own 6x6 pad ;)

Here's a couple of what I call 'scrappy cards' using these papers. I love making cards and I'm a stamper at heart, but sometimes it's fun (and fast!) to just go with the images pre-printed on your patterned paper (together with Distress Ink, of course). I love this embossed tag that goes with the paper collection, so made it the focal point of my card, which is 3x6 and has the tag peeking over the top:
My main image on this next card is from the 'My Secret Admirer' paper, which has 12 designs on it, perfect for tags, card fronts and journaling spots!
I had one last project to share with ya, but I accidentally deleted it from the post and the image is on my other computer... so, you'll just have to check back tomorrow to see it :) Hope you have a happy Valentine's day!

{For the LOVE of Chocolate} Challenge Items!

I've had so many ideas running through my head for this challenge, so I'm hoping before the month is through you'll see some more projects shared here :) Today I'm sharing with you a project that is inspired by and includes chocolate!

These sweet little pie cake boxes were cut from BoBunny paper with dies from Lifestyle Crafts (QuicKutz) and topped with paper flowers (Sizzix/Tim Holtz) and finished with a pretty flower from Making Memories. So cute you almost wanna eat 'em, so it's a good thing there's some yummy kisses inside ;) Here's a couple different angles so you can get a good look. Enjoy!

If you haven't started yet, there's still lots of time to play in this challenge- it's open for entries until the end of the month. Hmm... maybe one of these will end up being part of the prize? (No promises, they may not last until then!)

Kids Valentines

Just a quick post to share with you one of the projects I completed today! Many of you are either teachers (or teaching assistants, like me) or have kids of your own who give out handmade Valentines every year. The 2/3 class I work in is studying SPACE right now, so when I saw this stamp from Amuse I knew it was the image to use this year!

I cut out a big stack of blue hearts with a QuicKutz die and made these. About half of them are embossed in gold, then coloured with smooch. The other half have a white layer on top, with the image stamped in blue and coloured with my Copics & Smooch. Both have Perfect Pearls added for a finishing touch. They're simple, but fun... perfect when you have to make a bunch of them :) Hope the kids love them!
Here's a close up of the coloured ones... cute, eh? If your child is in my class, please don't let them see :)
Stay tuned... I'll be back tomorrow to share with you what I made for our current challenge ;)

Feb. Challenge {For the LOVE of Chocolate}

It's time for another CHALLENGE at Creative Accents! Normally, we'd go with a Valentine's theme this time of year, but we thought we'd give this one a little twist... We'd love to see your creations inspired by this theme:
Yep, the LOVE of CHOCOLATE! Let your imagination run wild with this one! You could create a project that is completely chocolatey, or scrapbook something you LOVE using shades of brown on your project, maybe you'll personalize some chocolates for Valentine's gifts or go anti-Valentine's day and pro-chocolate. The choice is yours- this challenge could take you anywhere, just make sure that wherever you go, there's CHOCOLATE with you (either the colour or the flavour)!

This challenge is open to participants online and in the store (we'd love to display your work on our creativ-i-tree) for the rest of the month of February. Once the challenge is closed, we'll select one of the entrants randomly to win a prize, which is sure to include some chocolate ;) Feel free to borrow this image to promote this challenge on your blog! Chocolate is one of those things you just can't have to much of!

I plan to have my challenge entry here for you to see in the next few days, and you can keep your eyes out for projects from our Seriously Creative Design Team members, as well! Today, you can pop on over to see what Chris, Janet and Sarah have made... I'm sure they'll be fabulous!

February 2011 Stamp of the Month

We're excited to be featuring "Heart Bird Keepsake" by Memory Box Stamps as our Stamp of the Month for February! I (Tara) teamed up with another of our Seriously Creative Design Team members, Carla, to create samples for our board this month!
This first card is a fun, shaped design by Carla. I love how the SOTM image, embossed in red, pops above the top edge of this card (which is flat for display purposes), while being tucked into the metal frame, it would look fabulous as an easel card! Hopefully you'll see the details on Carla's creations on her blog soon :)
Carla also made this next card- look at all the fun details! I especially love the bouquet of flowers peeking out from behind the heart, which has been embossed with Distress Embossing Powder (fun texture)!
I (Tara) made the next two cards. This one features the heart stamped onto some grunge paper which has been inked up with shades of red Distress Ink. I then painted on some clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint and let it dry before cutting it out. I layered my image over some of the Memory Box papers and finished it off with a Valentine's sentiment, a pearl flourish and a fabulous Prima flower from my stash. This next card is fairly simple, but fun. I stamped my image in Memento ink onto a sticky back canvas ATC by Ranger and coloured the heart with my Copics (I was inspired by Jennifer McGuire's post here). I darkened up the bird with a memento pen and frayed the edges of my canvas before adhering it to a piece of patterned paper (I love that the Memory Box papers are a nice cardstock weight! This brown dot pattern is available in 8.5x11 sheets). Both the plaid paper and the red pearl gems are from Memory Box as well. My scalloped edge was cut with a Tim Holtz on-the-edge border die (love these & use this one all the time!).
... and here's this month's extra perk- one each of 10 different 6x6 patterned papers by Memory Box (1/3 of this paper pack), designed to coordinate perfectly with the Valentine Delights collection, is included with your SOTM!
But wait... there's more! Here's some more great samples we have in the store- this first one is by Carla:

and this next one is on the beautiful sample board by Memory Box designers!
and here's even more fabulous samples from the Memory Box design team you might want to check out- like this gorgeous scrapbook layout, this valentine, and this card with pretty stamped layers!

I hope you enjoyed the eye candy, now I'd like to share a little BLOG CANDY with ya! For some reason, we rarely get comments on our SOTM posts and we'd like to change that (we work hard on these samples for you every month!) so... leave a comment on this post and we'll select one lucky person to win a surprise gift from Creative Accents & Memory Box! If we get more than 14 comments (in honour of Valentine's Day!) within a week, we'll add a $10 gift certificate to that prize! We can't wait to hear what you think of our latest SOTM!
