Today's Card

I've been feeling kinda bad for quiet the blog has been this summer... and then I realized I haven't posted any of our cards from our weekly Coffee & a Card drop in all month!  So, I've got some catching up to do... watch for it :)

Today's card was our last shot at summer stamping *sigh*... it was pretty gloomy here, with a thunder storm mid afternoon, but this yellow & orange card helped to brighten things a bit!  All stamps & printed paper flowers are by Hero Arts.  There's a fun twist on this card, as the right 1" edge is trimmed and glued to the inside of the card, letting the sentiment block overhang the card front a bit.  It was quick & easy to tie it all together with several shades of Distress Ink.

I'll be back in a couple days to share our September SOTM... it's a cutie!

p.s. there's still a bit more than 24 hours to play along with our August Challenge!  A card inspired by this would be a great contribution... ;)

Happy & Inky

I've been loving all the yellow projects inspired by our Summer Sunshine Challenge and had to make just one more project to share before the month is through!

Since I was playing with my Dylusions paints, it seemed a perfect idea to continue on with those... so I pulled out yellows & pink sprays, some stencils & stamps (also Dylusions) and set to work!  I absolutely love how these colours mix together to create gorgeous shades of orange as well.  I layered inks, stencils & stamps until I was happy with the result, then went in with some black Archival Ink.  It was turning out so pretty & HAPPY that I decided to make it into a card and add this great sentiment from Lawn Fawn.  My background paper on the card is by Amy Tangerine/ American Crafts.

Hope you enjoyed my inky card... I am always happiest when my fingers are inky, and Dylusions are sure to get me there LOL.  Just for fun, here's another photo of my inky fingers when I was working on another project this week...

Have a fantastic day & a sunny weekend!  Hope you'll join our Summer Sunshine Challenge to create a summer project featuring the colour YELLOW!

August {12 Tags of 2012}

We had our drop in today to make August tags inspired by Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2012.   This was a bit of a challenge since I had to make quite a few modifications, but I think it turned out pretty fabulous!
As always, Tim has fabulous instructions on his blog.  I'm just going to share with you a few of the changes that I made for my tag (if you're just here looking for eye candy... scroll down!  I'm also sharing the tag Mom & the other ladies made today!).  My changes...
  • I don't have Tim's new cameo stamp set, so I embossed a silhouette image by Hero Arts and framed it with a frame I cut with my Silhouette.  It was cut from white cardstock, then sprayed with black Dylusions ink & Cappuccino Perfect Pearl Mist.
  • I don't have the embossing folder with the oval window that Tim used, so I took this as a great project to use my Sizzix Embossing Diffusers (here's a video about how they work) together with one of my embossing folders (I think this is Damask).  I used the round Diffuser, off set from the center to mimic the oval shape Tim used.  (Mom's tag, below, used the oval Diffuser.)
  • I used a mix of blue & green paint on my background- love how that combo turned out!
  • I added new Distress Stickles Clear Rock Candy dry glitter to my flowers... so pretty!  I think I'm gonna have fun with this stuff!  I started painting the new paintable Rock Candy Distress Stickles, then decided to dunk them right into my tub of glitter :)
Here's the tag Mom made, which she finished off with a sewing machine charm and button from BoBunny:
... and here's the big 'group shot' (which turned out a bit blurry. bah.)  Isn't it fab how different they all are?  We all improvised a bit differently, which turned out really great.
Our 12 Tags drop in happens every month and there is no charge for it- just read over Tim's instructions for his new tag and bring what you have, we'll improvise and share (or you can purchase) the rest!  It's a fun, casual time to play with some new techniques!

FLY {featured by Ranger}

I'm back with another fun card using Tim Holtz's hot air balloon stamp and lots of Ranger goodness.  I'm very excited that my card was featured on the Ranger blog yesterday!  You can see this project and all the fun details on Ranger's website, but I'll give you a quick summary of what I used:
  • Distress Markers (on glossy cardstock for the balloon & manila cardstock for the background)
  • Sticky Back Canvas (fun texture for those clouds, cut with a Memory Box die)
  • Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint (on the balloon & scrabble tiles)
You can see the full product list and instructions on Ranger's website.  Hope you like!

30 Already?

One of my fabulous friends, Elise, is turning 30 today! Crazy!  She's very young at heart (and still gets mistaken for a teenager every now and then...) so she's not even afraid to admit it :)  If you're reading, Elise, I hope your day is amazing and relaxing and that your hubbie continues to spoil you rotten ;)

Here's the card I gave her...
I've used papers by My Mind's Eye and another free digital stamp by Saturated Canary, Ava.   Have I mentioned how much I love these images and how excited I am to have some of them as real RUBBER stamps coming to our store!?  You can pre-order them HERE (special pre-order pricing is still on- we're matching the US prices!)
Love the Tim Holtz ticket stamps- added die cut numbers with Spica glitter pens & Glossy Accents.  The ruffle is Cosmo Cricket Washi tape :)
this balloon gave me a lot of grief... Ice Stickles glitter & Glossy Accents to the rescue!

Simple Summer Card Set {featured by Ranger}

I'm so honored this month to have another project featured on Ranger's website, this time we've got a step by step tutorial so you can create along with me!  (***EDIT*** the project is no longer on Ranger's website, so I've re-blogged the instructions HERE to make sure it doesn't get lost!  Thanks to all who have messaged me for the tutorial!***)

Here's a closer look at my card (actually, it's a slight variation on the one in the tutorial- I've been having fun making these!):
I love how cheery this card set is with a splash of yellow on each card... makes it perfect for our August Challenge over at the Seriously Creative Challenge blog: Summer Sunshine!  I hope you'll join us in creating a summer inspired project that features the colour yellow!

Before I go, I have to share another card you may have seen before- it uses the same technique, with the  Summer Distress Ink set!

August SOTM

Introducing our August Stamp of the Month- a gorgeous shell frame collage stamp by Impression Obsession!
We've sweetened up your SOTM packages a little bit this month with the addition of 10 kraft tags (as seen on Tara's cards) and six seashell embellishments (also on our cards) packaged together in the bag with this beautiful cling mounted stamp.  For our samples, we've used papers from Creative Imaginations "Oceanside" collection.  It's gorgeous, available in both 12x12 and 6x6 papers.

Seriously Creative Design Team Member, Janet, helped me out making samples this month, here's what she created:

You can see more details on her cards on her blog!

Here's the cards I (Tara) created:
For this first one, I stamped with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink on a kraft tag and brushed over it with Perfect Pearls.  I stamped a sentiment over the frame with Versafine ink and added some resin seashells to finish the tag.  My bow features our fabulous inkable crinkable ribbon dyed with three shades of blue Distress Stain.  The flourish below the tag was die cut with plain chipboard, then misted with Perfect Pearl Mist (the same shades I used on the stamped image).  I added some texture to the card with some dry wall tape :)
The shell frame collage on this card was inked with several shades of distress markers and stamped on ivory cardstock, then misted with Bronze Perfect Pearl Mist.  The sentiment was stamped on a piece of kraft tag... which, when I tore it, I discovered it has a blue core!  So cool, and perfect for this card!  The background layer is a resist paper from this same collection, inked with shades of distress ink then misted with Bronze Perfect Pearl Mist (and quickly wiped so it didn't all stick to the shiny 'resist' parts of the design).

I hope you'll agree... this versatile stamp is a perfect summer image, very easy to use with fantastic results!

I've got another bonus... We'll be featuring the SOTM on a bonus card for this week's Coffee & a Card on Thursday!  As always, it's just $2 to drop in, but SOTM members can make their card (or take home the pre-cut papers to do it at home) for FREE when they stop by the store to pick up their stamp (while quantities last)!

We hope to see many of you in the store on Thursday!  Drop in anytime between 11am-5pm to make your card.
