I'm Creative...

... you can't expect me to be neat too!
Today, as you read this post, I am sitting in the Ranger Classroom getting all inky with amazing artists from around the world, learning from Tim Holtz, Claudine Hellmuth and Dyan Reavely!  How lucky am I to be chosen to be among them?!?  Hopefully the next post I share with you here will include a look at what I learned or created at Ranger University!

So today my card really highlights Distress Stains!  Here's a peek at the colours I used on these butterflies:
Aren't they sunny & cheery? Like the weather outside (I'm ever hopeful spring is really here...)  The background of this card is almost completely coloured with Distress Stains as well.  The print was part of the paper, as were the orange postage stamps on the bottom right corner.  I kept this card really simple to let the background shine.  This paper is from the Mistables collection by Pink Paislee, but we've got some fun ones from Heidi Swapp in the store right now too!  They make it so easy to get amazing results, and the papers are thick enough to withstand layers of ink & paint without warping.  Fabulous products!

Be the Change

This card... I don't know if it was really crooked, or if I was just having Photoshop issues, but I just could not get it cropped square!   I'm not sure what it is, but something about this card is just giving me grief... not my fave project lately, but it's got some fun elements.  eh.  I ended up cropping out the edge of the card so it didn't look so crooked at least.  You can see it on our Creativi-tree in the store this month!

Once again, I've used Graphic 45 quotes, Prima butterflies with Distress Stains & BoBunny papers.  I also pulled out one of my new Memory Box dies- these things are gorgeous and so intricate!  Love them! (We've got some new ones in the store this week!)

The card layout was inspired by CLP Sketch #46, who my buddy Eulanda designs for.  My card doesn't hold a candle to her work of art... but I bet I made it in less than half the time it took her LOL.  I love seeing all the different ways a single sketch is interpreted!

p.s. Mom has Coffee & a Card all ready for you this week- stop by the store on Thursday between 11am and 5pm & you can make a card (while drinking coffee) for just $2!

be who you are

I love this quote and I'm really trying to embrace who I am as I'm on this journey called life... I feel incredibly satisfied and very ME, when I'm up to my elbows in inky goodness, as I was making the cards I'm sharing this week.  I can only imagine how giddy I will be this weekend at Ranger University!  By the time this post is live, I'll be in the air on the first leg of my journey... I can't wait to share with all of you what I learn there!

This card has very similar elements to the one I shared on Saturday, namely those delicious canvas resist butterflies inked with Distress Stains- greens & blues this time.  I've added a metal embellishment, ribbon and bling from my stash and did some layering with Vintage Dot paper by BoBunny.  Love this stuff- it coordinates so perfectly with their collections!

I've used Deconstructed Sketch 48 as a starting point for my card :)  Hope I'll get at a computer so I can enter my link before it's too late!

Again, this card is perfect for our Sprays & Stains Challenge at the SCCB (getting tired of typing the whole thing out!).  Won't you join us?   One random entrant will win a $10 gift certificate for our online store, which is coming soon!

Playing with Distress Stains!

Today I'm sharing a colourful card that I created for our Sprays & Stains Challenge over at the Seriously Creative Challenge Blog!  It was a pleasure getting out my Distress Stains, some resist products and new papers... making something pretty!

I started knowing I wanted to use a great sheet of Kraft quotes from Graphic 45 and the Vintage Market collection by BoBunny, grabbed some 'mistables' paper (Pink Paislee) and resist canvas butterflies (Prima), Distress Stains by Ranger and got to work!  Since the Mistables paper and resist butterflies are made to stand up to inks & paints, they're amazing paired with a fluid product like Distress Stains!  I even misted water on the paper to encourage more blending and it stayed pretty flat!  The strip you see on this card was also misted with Biscotti Perfect Pearls, as was the sentiment before I sprayed it with Goosebumps (Tsukineko) as well (there's a bit of Moon Shadow Mist from Lindy's Stamp Gang on there too... told ya I had fun!).  I inked all my edges, including the sentiment panel, with Distress Stains too.

Here's a close up:
I love this pen nib as a butterfly body!  This brass butterfly is a fabulous embellishment from Graphic 45, isn't it pretty?  I'm not usually one to mix metals on a project, but I love how it turned out on this card!
Other supplies: Kraft cardstock, Tim Holtz products: Tiny Attacher, Film Strip Ribbon, Pen Nibs & Lightbulbs.

I had so much fun with this card, I actually made a set with coordinating products!  I'll be sharing them over the next week or so, while I'm away on my trip to Ranger University!  I hope to be posting photos along my journey on the store Facebook page, we'd love to have you follow us and see the peeks!

PS: We've got a great Deal of the Week right now!  This week you can save 20% on all in stock Ranger Products!

Plumeria Cards

This month our Page of the Month class features Basic Grey's Plumeria collection... it's beautiful (and we have kits available, which include papers, embellishments & instructions!) and so easy to create with.  Here's some quick cards I came up with using some of our extra materials:

It's just paper & stickers, with foam adhesive for dimension and bling for fun (that fab yellow button is one of the vintage button embellishments in this month's kit!).  If you look close, you might be able to see some details I added with Crackle Accents... simple & sweet cards, hope you like!

Contact us at the store if you'd like a kit!  We should be able to ship 2 kits (Konnichiwa & Plumeria) together for the same price if you're interested :)

12 Tags: April

We had our monthly "12 Tags" drop in today! It's always fun to get inky and Tim Holtz makes it easy and fun with his 12 Tags of 2012 tutorials! You can check out the step by step for the April tag HERE for all the how-to info. I just want to share our tags with you!

Here's the tag I created:
I didn't have the new bird & branch die (though it's hanging in the store... tempting me!) so I decided I could work with pieces I already have!  I used one of the flourish Bigz dies and the Movers & Shapers bird.  I used a Sizzix embossing folder that is a fave of mine (remember it from these quick cards?), it has lots of open space for stamping the reflections stamps into.  I also used a piece of tin to cut a simple crown for my bird.  The rest of the supply list, I had :)  I haven't pulled out Distress EP for a while, so that was fun.  Love the texture it gives on my 'branch'!  Here's a close up:
And here's my tag along side Mom's tag.  She used the M&S branch on her tag.
And here's the tags created by the 3 lovely ladies who joined us in the studio today! I love seeing how differently everyone's projects turn out using the same techniques and products!
Our 12 Tags Drop ins are scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of each month- we'd love to have you join us in May!  It'll be the week after our Fiesta weekend and I'll be brimming with enthusiasm as a freshly Certified Ranger Educator :)

Happy Easter! {April Challenge Card}

Happy Easter!  We hope you are celebrating this Easter, enjoying the spring season, spending time with those you love, and eating a chocolate bunny or two ;)

If you've been to our Challenge blog, you already know that we've got a fun new theme for April: Sprays & Stains!
Here's a closer look at the card Mom (Julie) made for this challenge!
She has used the M&S bunny die from Tim Holtz and cut book print, chipboard and felt out of it.  The book print pieces were embossed with the new honeycomb embossing folder (some before adhering to chipboard, and some after!) and each bunny was inked with a different shade of Distress Stain to coordinate with this paper by BoBunny.  They were then sprayed with my current fave shade of Perfect Pearl Mist, Biscotti.  The corner die cut is a new Memory Box die and the sentiment is new in the store from Lawn Fawn!

Enjoy the rest of the Easter weekend... we hope to see you when we open again on Tuesday!

April 2012 SOTM

I am happy to introduce to you our newest Stamp of the Month, the "On the Mend" stamp set from Lawn Fawn, a brand new company in our store!  Our samples this month also feature the "Konnichiwa" collection by Basic Grey.
These images are sweet & simple, with coordinating sentiments. They're perfect for both colouring and paper piecing and are sure to brighten someone's day!  Here's what the full set looks like:
Isn't it cute?!  Mom (Julie) created this first card, with some simple paper piecing.
I love the little details here- kleenex wads & googly eyes!  I can't help but smile when I look at it :)

Mom was inspired by a card created by a Lawn Fawn DT member who made a similar card.  She stamped the background with the bandaid image and added rings of dots with black Enamel Accents.  Love the added detail of the bug on this card :)  (Don't look too closely here though... she made a little boo boo that we're hoping you'll overlook! LOL)
Next up are the cards I created... I think my fave of the images is this adorable little turtle!  I coloured him with my Copics and paper pieced the hot water bottle on his back. I've used a new label die (exclusive PageMaps set by Spellbinders), a Tim Holtz on the edge die and a new Memory Box die for the flowers- aren't they adorable?
As you can see here, I also used Goosebumps on my turtle again... I don't think I'll be able to use a turtle image without it, it's so much fun!  I actually layered it over some Glossy Accents on parts of the shell to add some extra dimension.
The sentiment I wanted to use didn't quite fit the paper... so I took out my scissors and cut it up to make it fit.  I love how you can do this with clear and unmounted stamps.  An acrylic block with a grid helps to line up the words perfectly.
My final card used a sketch from the new Card Maps 2 book we have in the store.   I've used the Memory Box flowers again and another exclusive PageMaps label die (from the March set).
I hope you like our samples!  We had a lot of fun making the cards this month, and still have ideas to spare... these stamps are really easy to work with!

If you're not already a member of our SOTM program, we'd love to have you join us and save 35% on this and future SOTM purchases!  You can see all the details RIGHT HERE.  We do have extra copies of this stamp set available in the store (and they'll be in our new online store which is coming soon)!
