In addition to the fun of hopping, you can enjoy some shopping and Save 25% off My Favorite Things stamps and dies.  I see a few I need to put on my wish list from this graphic alone...

You should be arriving here from my talented friend Kate, who shares fabulous tutorials on her YouTube channel!  Maybe one day I'll master that skill... but today I get to share a card that features some of my favorite things!

First- the technique.  I wasn't sure what to do when Raya challenged us to create using our favorite technique this month. There's so many things I love, but I chose to go with one that is my 'default' when I have a lovely stamp design like these dogwood flowers by Catherine Pooler.  I love creating a Distress Ink background and stamping open designs over it, or simply die cutting inky cardstock rather than regular colored cardstock.  I started with a combination of Distress Stain & Distress Spray Stain to create an ombre effect on a piece of white cardstock.  I misted with water and layered colors until I had a look I was happy with, then took it a step further and added Distress Spritz to add some shimmer!

While my ombre paper dried, I contemplated my card design- finally deciding to feature some of my favorite elements.  I absolutely love using Kraft cardstock and elements with text.  For this card I used some book print from a thrifted hardcover.  I die cut the book print round and searched through my Collage Strips to find a color that would suite my card design, settling on this soft green strip.

Once everything was dry, I stamped and embossed the sentiment "Love Always" and the dogwood flowers on different parts of the background paper I inked up.  The copper embossing turned out so pretty with these coral tones, though it sure was difficult to photograph!

I used Distress Oxide ink to blend a bit more color onto the flowers and Distress Watercolor pencils to highlight the sentiment a bit.  Once all my layers were assembled, I finished it off with some assorted bits of bling & pearls.

Products I used include:

You can find the full Hop list on the Scrap 'N Stamp blog- Next up is Deepa.

I hope you enjoyed a little peek into some of my favorite things and one of my favorite techniques!

Inky hugs,
Tara
