3D Birthday Hop!

Happy Hop weekend!  In celebration of Scrap 'N Stamp's 17th birthday (AND Raya's birthday too!) we have been featuring 3D Birthday Cards this month.  As per usual, the full details are on the SNS blog and the while the hop is a short one, the projects are most definitely sweet!

If you're inspired by the projects & are up for a little shopping, you can save 17% on your order this weekend too!  I can tell you now that the stamps I'm featuring are already a fantastic deal, but are even better with some extra savings.

I wanted to keep my card pretty simple, while still embracing the 3D element... I had my heart set on using a fun "Wibbly Wobbly" die, but the size didn't quite work out with Mr. Crab here- he's quite large, as you can see on my card (which will fit in a standard A2 envelope).  My youngest grandson just turned 1 year old this week, so this card is a fun one to celebrate him.

I've used a simple step-card fold & cut (I found a tutorial on Pinterest that I used as my starting point) to add dimension to this card.  Since Mr. Crab is almost 4" wide, I decided not to add any other competing elements besides his sign and the details on the beach area.  He was colored with Distress Watercolor pencils and blended using a few shades of red.  I added Glossy Accents on his eyes to make them pop.

I started with an inky Distress background and added details from the Sea Elements stamp set- it includes the shell and waves borders plus a variety of other elements, like the school of fish I added.  Below is a side angle showing the way I cut and folded the card base.  It has a 1" offset that folds flat to fit in a standard A2 envelope.

I decided to bling up the beach a bit with a variety of gems- pearls, sequins and even some copper gilding flakes!  There's a lot of fun shimmery details to add fun to this card.

Next up on the Hop is the talented Deepa- you've already seen a peek of her project and it is stunning... glad I didn't have to share my simple step card after hers. haha ;)

Inky hugs,
Tara
