June 2010 SOTM

I can't believe it's JUNE already tomorrow! I actually pulled out all the QK letters to spell "May 2010" on my sample board this time around... but I clued in before cutting them out. Perhaps because that capital "M" would not have fit ;) Anywho- I'm thrilled to introduce "Weighty Matters" a fab new stamp set by Cornish Heritage Farms! I am in LOVE with these stamps as they are perfect for making cards for our girlfriends for all sorts of occasions... including, of course, the dreaded battle with the scale! (Making cards with these stamps actually did motivate me to get back on track with a healthy diet, believe it or not!)

I'm thrilled to have our fabulous designer, Cheri, help me out with card samples this month and here is what we came up with! We both worked with the new 'Max & Whiskers' collection by Basic Grey. I used 3 different 12x12 sheets and Cheri used the 6x6 pad. I just love the colour combo and how perfectly it worked with these images! (There's a bonus card that fits the latest 'Charisma Cardz Challenge' at the end of this post... read on to check it out!)

Here's a close up of the stamps- they're cling mounted red rubber from the 'Saturday Evening Post' collection.
Here's the first card, created by Cheri! I won't even attempt to describe it to you, except to say that it's 6x6 and it rocks. All the details are up on Cheri's blog, so you can go visit her when you're done here :)
And, using the same image... here's a simple card by yours truly! My main image is stamped in black Versafine on some of the new 'basics' paper by Basic Grey. I think I'll be going through a LOT of that stuff, between the three shades (kraft, manila & white) it goes with pretty much everything! My shapes are all by QuicKutz, including the dry embossing at the base of my card, which I did on some 'black magic' Core'dinations cardstock. I just LOVE this cardstock with dry embossing and the fun vintage look you get when you sand it. This card was quite quick & simple, but I was pleased with the end result... so I made another so I'd actually have one to give to a friend!
Here's the other card I made- I loved the idea of using the measuring tape twill as a border here, and a lightly distressed tag made the perfect base for my pup whose having a rough day... I noticed the scratchy texture stamp in one of my new Tim Holtz sets perfectly matched the texture of my patterned paper, so I stamped it in the same shade of blue distress ink (I'm forgetting which blue it was at the moment... shame on me!). This was another super simple card, I just added a few brads to add some extra texture and called it done! As there are no 'girly' touches on this one, it could totally be given to a guy in your life who is having a rough day... especially if you tucked a chocolate bar inside! (maybe one of those 100 calorie ones?) Are you impressed? I made two cards in a row without flowers on them... whoa.
I had to laugh when I saw Cheri's tag here- we used the same image/sentiment combo on them! Must be those puppy dog eyes that make us think 'Chocolate'! This chipboard tag could be attached to a whole bundle of chocolate bars, don'tcha think? Again, all the deets for this one are up on Cheri's blog!
... and here's a little bonus card that didn't make the sample board! This card is 3x6" (but the circle the main image is on actually overhangs on the fold) and uses bits of the leftover papers from my other cards, cut out with assorted sizes of round QK Cookie Cutter dies. This card is also a perfect fit for the new Charisma Cardz Challenge, "Going 'Round in Circles"... fun, eh?

I decided to try colouring this guy to help him compete with the brightness of the rest of the card! I added glossy accents on the dial of the scale and on his bulging eyes. Poor little dude looks shocked. This is why we shouldn't stay away from the scale for *too* long, right? LOL .
Thanks for reading & looking and especially for commenting (hint, hint)! Hope you enjoy your new stamps and will consider sharing with us something you make with them!

If you're not already a member of our SOTM club, ask us about it next time you're in the store! It's a great way to try out some new stamps (we feature a variety of styles & stamp companies) and save $ while you're at it (stamps are always 35% off for SOTM members). We'll gladly do mail order and ship your stamp expresspost every month... you'll save even more if you get a friend to join you and split the shipping costs :) We *always* have a display board featuring 4 projects created with the current SOTM on display in the store and here on the blog as well. Click on the 'SOTM' label at the bottom of this post to check out samples from previous months.

Have a creative day!
