12 tags of 2014- May- artful gentlemen

I'm just squeaking in at the last minute to finish my tag inspired by Tim Holtz's May 2014 tag!  I decided to go with a masculine theme for my tag and had some fun pulling out stamps and embellishments to work with it.  I've always loved this stamp of 3 men, and the hat & moustache brads from my stash (stache? LOL) seemed like a fun addition!  Assorted brads, & Tim Holtz idea-ology embellishments together with assorted TH patterned papers came together quite nicely for me :)

Here's some close ups for you:
I highlighted the 'artful' tag with Distress paint and the gentleman's hat with Crackle Accents.  Here's a photo of the full tag with my crinkle ribbon (can't get enough of this stuff!)
I also made a Father's Day card using a lot of the same elements- here's a look at it:

As I'm uploading photos, I realize I forgot to watermark my photos... so I guess I'll be editing this post soon!  But, as it's pretty close to the end of the month I'll continue on- it feels great to be 'on time' with Tim's monthly tags again!  Hopefully I can keep this up!

Just make ART

Some days it's harder than others to actually create something 'good' or something I actually feel worth sharing or giving to a friend.  I've got a gift project 'on hold' because nothing I seem to come up with is good enough for the dear friend I want to send it to.  Do you ever fell that way?  I've always believed that art is the most amazing form of therapy, and now more than ever I find that to be true.  I decided to write this quote at the start of my art journal, which is my place to make art for the sake of making art- not that I need to share it with anyone, and certainly not to send it to anyone, but just to make art.  I love making cards and canvases and scrapbook pages... but sometimes an idea has to start somewhere, and sometimes that somewhere isn't very pretty, but it inspires you along the road to make something pretty!

Anyways, that's my ramblings for today about making art... now I need to go make some more!
This page is the front page of my Dylusions art journal.  I wrote the quote with acrylic paint and sprayed Dylusions over it after it dried (for a few days, though that wasn't necessary!), blending them with water and a wide paint brush.

CC3C- Challenge 2 {Distress Glitter}

The second CC3C Challenge theme is Distress Glitter, so I found a few pieces to coat in glitter and made this tag so I could play along :)  I kept my tag pretty simple, after glittering up the wooden airplane (prima) I knew I had a look through my Tim Holtz stamp binders and found this one I hadn't even inked up yet!  I stamped it with Potting Soil Archival ink and used Distress Ink over it to create my background.  A bit of washi and some brads, together with the glittery shapes and a crackled heart are all I needed for this tag!

I outlined some words with a black pen and added Crackle Accents over the word 'journey'
I couldn't resist adding this hat brad to my heart!  The crackle heart was metallic Distress Crackle Paint with Archival Ink over it.
This buckle (a bonus in my package from Tim & Mario with my CC3 book!) and some twill tape I inked with Distress finish off the tag.  I love how easy this was to attach to the tag, and how it looks like a luggage tag now! So fun!
Here's another look at the full tag, with the full twill tape loop in the photo.  Fun, right?
I love these Compendium of Curiosities challenges and how they stretch me to create something new!  This challenge is sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique and some lucky participant will get a $25 GC from them :)  Plus someone who creates something amazing will get a goodie pack of TH stuff- fabulous!  Win or not, it was great to play along though!  Leave me a comment if you are playing too and I will pop over to see what you made!

CC3C- First Challenge Accepted!

I'm excited to be playing along with the new Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge- the first one is using Tim's Paint Marbling technique!  I'm hoping I can find time/materials to play through them all... one every 2 weeks should be doable :) Extra motivation comes with the awesome prizes they are offering- this weeks' is from Inspiration Emporium- a $50 GC!  I'm pretty sure I could find a few things to spend that on... :)

So today I was playing with colours for a larger project I'm working on, and I think I'll keep playing because these went a bit muddy... After using the technique on my tags, I added a bit of background stamping before deciding on my layout and images for the finished project.  I wanted the background to shine, so I went with some simple black stamping using Archival ink.  The birds are a stamp by Memory Box and the sentiment is by Inkadinkado.  I added a bit of black soot distress stickles to them to add texture & finished it off with some crinkle ribbon I'd dyed previously and some paper flowers & bling I had in my stash!  It's a simple project, but it's done in time to meet the challenge LOL.  Hope you like it!  Here's a couple close ups!

Watercolor Smiles

Here's a card that I hope will make you smile... it made me smile when I made it and it still does the trick today as I blog about it!  I was inspired by the Hip on Handwriting Challenge on the Moxie Fab World blog and decided to try handwriting a resist on some watercolor paper.  For this card, I used Ranger's Matte Accents, but Glossy Accents would work just as well.  I chose to write out a few different pieces and let it dry overnight before adding my watercolor details!  (I practiced on several scraps of paper before coming up with this one.  A clear embossed stamped image would work great too!)
My watercolor background is all about Distress Ink- a combo of Distress markers & a wet paintbrush, as well as a stencil & blending tool and a fabulous background stamp.  I had fun with the mix of textures here and kept it really simple by adding a ribbon, flowers & bling!  Here's a couple of close ups to check out!

I'm thinking a variation on this card will be part of an upcoming class I'll be teaching... watch for details coming soon!

Simply Sketchy

This is just a quick post to share a card I put together on the weekend after a fun day spent at Betty's Creative Studio for National Scrapbooking Day!  I did this fabulous background with Dylusions while I was there, and mom suggested we challenge each other to make a card featuring the latest Deconstructed Sketch... so here's what I came up with!  It's not exactly a WOW card, but it'll be great for when I need a birthday card!  I fussy cut the little owl out of patterned paper, glossed up his eyes and added a pompom.  I also added a simple sketchy/watercolor frame to my sentiment to tie it in with the washi tape strips.  My sentiment was highlighted with Distress Markers for a bit of a watercolor look to tie in with the inky background.

Beautiful Moments

A bit of spring to share with you today... a simple card made from an extra tag I created at one of my tag technique classes at the store a while back- love the springy colors!  I simply added one of my fave Tim Holtz sentiment stamps, crinkle ribbon and a few flowers!  Kraft Core paper forms my card base, with a large border punch for fun detail along the side and some floral washi tape along the front and inside edge!  Simple but beautiful, because there is no reason a card can't be both those things :)
Hope your day is full of beautiful moments!
