Family

I confess... I'm crazy in love with the 'bloomers' ribbon by Websters Pages. So when I pulled it out of the package to see how much you get (18" of 5 different colours) and just to touch it (you can't tell me you don't like to just touch pretty textured stuff...) ideas started forming and, miracle of miracles, Mom & I put together this pretty scrapbook page together. We used their fabric fancies and two sheets of paper to frame this family picture, taken by Laureen Carruthers, a couple years ago. Here it is on display in the store in a magnetic frame, which I think is also by Webster's Pages... they just go together, I tell ya!
Here's the layout... we 3-D'd some flowers and butterflies (from our second sheet, which we used for the photo mat), added crackle accents on the butterflies and some pearls to finish it off. Our title is with the new QK font, English Rose.
here's a zoom on the crackled butterfly, fabric fancies & bloomers... so much touchable texture, I love it!

hope this inspires you to go create something beautiful today!

tweaking...

It's been bugging me that our blog banner was still celebrating our 10th birthday, which was last summer... the easy fix would have been to change that banner, but of course, I didn't save it in a way that was easy to fix, so I'm starting from scratch to give the blog a fresh new look!

What you see today will not be the final result. I don't love it, but it's something I can live with until I find the perfect look :) I do like the switch to a 3 column blog, though, and I hope that'll make it easier for you to find the links & info you are looking for!

I'd love your feedback... and any tips if you're a pro at blog design :) Please tell me what you like/don't like and any improvements you'd like me to add! It's a work in progress so I'm wide open to suggestions!

*edit* found a background that I love, hope it loads quicker now too (I think I got rid of all the layers of backgrounds that were hiding there LOL)... next up is creating a header to match! I think this'll do for now... what do you think?

Card Class with Cheri!

Hooray! Cheri is teaching another class this month- this time featuring a fabulous new Mo Manning stamp released by Stamping Bella! The class is scheduled for Saturday, June 26 (I think... we'll confirm the date and time soon!) and you'll learn to make a fabulous 'Cheri style' Easel card with this stamp (which you get to take home!) and get some tips for colouring your image with Copics, as well! There will also be a bonus quick project featuring our June SOTM, since it's along the same theme :)

You can check out a few more details on this card on Cheri's blog. Space is limited, so make plans to sign up soon!

A while back I entered a card in a challenge on the InLinkz blog (the fab new linky gadget I used for our colour challenge!) and voting is now officially on... so I'm here to make a plug for votes :)

You can go check it out here and vote for my card, which is #39, by the way :) Thanks a bunch!

edited p.s. Voting is over, so I've removed all the contest info! I didn't win, but I appreciate your votes!

She's SEW Special...

... my mom, that is! It's her birthday today and I think she enjoyed a relaxing day off at home and on the town :)

Here's the card I made for her, using paper from Cosmo Cricket's Material Girl collection together with chipboard by Maya Road.

The chipboard shapes were coloured with my Copics & a silver marker from American crafts before I covered it with Rock Candy Crackle Paint by Ranger. The flowers were cut from the patterned paper, then shaped by hand and dipped in Glitter Ritz. I used Clearsnap's Glue Gloss for this and it worked great with the glitter- I'll definitely be using it again! My border strip of paper was also covered in Glitter Ritz, this time I used the Sookwang tape (ie. Scor-Tape) before I burnished it. My sentiment is from Hero Arts.

Green at Heart- Basic Grey POTM

I fell in love with the colours and patterns of the Green at Heart collection by Basic Grey and was thrilled when we got to play with it for our May Page of the Month class! Here's the sample layout by the BG artists:

... and here's what Mom did with it! (sorry about the lousy photo!)
Here's a close up of the title. We used the "Take Note" overlays and Canvas tags together with the Micro Monogram Stickers (you won't believe how many letters are on that sheet!). We also had a ton of goodies to work with in the 12x12 sticker elements set! Everyone got to take home lots of extra goodies, as usual!

I had to switch up the papers for my layout, since we used up all the purple... but it was a fun twist as well & I added some photos from a friends stagette party, which had a tropical theme! You'll have to stop by the store in person to see it, though... I think I may get in trouble if I posted those photos for all the world to see :)

Here's the bonus card we created. I had a hard time with this since there was sooo much extra stuff to choose from (including a ton of adorable stickers), but I went with simple, which is always safe when you have such bold individual elements! I used extra bits from the alpha stickers to add some touches of purple to the tree (those are the centers of a's and o's you see there) and an upside down exclamation point on the butterfly :) I used a white gel pen to trace around some of the letters to make them pop off the patterned paper.

We had a fun time at our May class and are looking forward to a really elegant layout for June, when we break out Capella!

Cup of love

It's been a while since I've shared a layout here, so I thought I should do that (I'm in a card-making phase right now, though the Basic Grey POTM is keeping me scrappin'! I should share the May layout too, eh? Watch for that soon...) Anywho, here' s the first project I did when the new colours of Tim Holtz Distress Ink showed up in the store!

I wanted to use as many as I possibly could on one project (heehee) so I pulled out a gorgeous sheet of 'Invisibles' paper and started in with my blending tool! I went a little heavy on the blues, but I love the end result, regardless! I stamped over the entire background with one of my most loved (ie. heavily stained & much used!) stamps, a gorgeous script background by A Stamp In the Hand. I love how the white pops off the page when you buff the ink off it!

These photos are 'vintage' ones of me as a toddler (I LOVE that my dad is into photography and used to do black & white photo processing! Never worry about taking too many photos of your children, folks, they'll love you for it one day!) that my parents had used to make a valentine for my grandparents one year. I know, cute, right? I kept this really simple with a title out of Pink Paislee glitter letters (fabulous!), black grosgrain ribbon and a white Prima flower!

I'm a Guest Bar-Tender!

PhotobucketRemember the card I entered in the 'Raise the Bar' challenge a couple weeks ago? It was chosen as one of their 'Top 3' that week and this week I have the privilege of being 'guest bar-tender' on their blog :) The theme is Celebrating Summer and it was the perfect excuse for me to ink up my new 'Emerging Turtle' stamp set from Cornish Heritage Farms!

In addition to Raise the Bar, I used the current Mojo Monday sketch and I'm entering it in the Stamptacular Sunday Challenge, "Life's a Beach" because this card just makes me want to hit the beach... wouldn't it be fabulous to swim with the turtles? I love the sentiments here... with just a couple weeks left of school, we (school staff!) are constantly reminding ourselves to keep our chin up, the end is near ;)

Anywho... here's my card! All the deets are listed below :)

Stamps: Cornish Heritage Farms (turtle, starfish, sentiments), Tim Holtz (splatter texture)
Die Cuts: Tim Holtz (border), QuicKutz (label)
Paper: BoBunny Paradise collection, Bazzill Dot & Kraft Cardstock
Accents: Crackle Accents (Ranger), thin twine, 3D squares
Ink: Distress Ink... just Distress Ink (I added Ink Potion #9 by Tsukineko to the turtle)

And the winner is...

Carla Mc!
Random.org helped us to select a winner from our Colour Challenge and it selected #3... which is Carla! We've put together a lovely bunch of goodies for you Carla, and we'll have them ready for you next time you stop by the store :) Here's a peek at the goodies Carla gets to take home:

and here's a peek at her card:

You can see all of it on her blog!
I absolutely love the image Carla used- it's a Mo Manning digi stamp, but it's coming soon to our store in RUBBER- Can't wait! I'm crazy about Mo's illustrations!

Thanks to all who played in this challenge & helped us try out the inlinkz gadget- I loved it and will definitely be using it on our next challenge, which will probably happen in July :) I'll be posting the prize up front next time, so hopefully that'll entice more to enter :)

One last thing... many of the entries are on display here in the store, so you can stop by and see them up close next time you're shopping :)
