Summer Fun 3 Card Class

Well now, enough of that "Christmas Card" nonsense... this week's three card class will get us back to cards celebrating SUMMER!
These three cards feature something many people have trouble with or questions about: Rub Ons! All the images & words are included on a sheet of rub ons, which will give each class participant some extras to take home, too! The fresh & cheery papers are a combo of a fun plaid by My Mind's Eye and some 'solids' by Basic Grey. I hope you like the cards and will join us to create them on Thursday! Because we're using rub ons, space is limited, so please reserve your spot today!

"Hoppy" Cards!

These new frog stamps by Stampendous just make me 'hoppy' ;) I had so much fun colouring up these little 'Fergie' frogs to match these 'Little Sprout' papers by Crate Paper (totally perfect 'boy' papers, which I've been wanting to play with for a while, now!), then I applied Crackle Accents by Ranger on the frogs (Glossy Accents for the eyes) to add some fabulous texture... and I love it. The sentiment is a sneak peek at the August SOTM-heehee- I added a bling over the 'a' to make it say 'hoppy' instead of happy :)
This is another new stamp I got from Stampendous (yes- an order arrived last week and there's tons more cuties where these came from!). This one has been released on their new cling mount system- it stamped beautifully and they're about 40% cheaper than wood, gotta love that! I just used up some scraps of paper from my first card and hand cut the stem and leaf for the large flower. I'm not crazy about my colouring on this one, but it'll do... I know I'll have fun playing with this tiny stamp some more, though!
There's a whole collection of new stamps in store- many are cling mounted and there's a bunch of new clear sets, too... including some Christmas images (for those of you who are ready for that... like I said in my last post, I'm not!). The highlight of this shipment, though, is the new Storage Solutions! We LOVE these clear plastic cases by Stampendous for storing cling & clear stamps (the thin size) as well as the two other sizes, thick & thicker. In fact, we love them so much that we're just giving them away... yep- for FREE! Just spend $20 on stamps in the store and we'll give you a FREE THIN STORAGE SOLUTION to take home & try out. You're gonna love it!

3 Card Class: Christmas in July

This week's class has a 'Christmas in July' theme... I actually asked mom to come up with the cards this week, because I just can't get my head wrapped around making Christmas cards yet LOL, but here's what mom created. Papers are by Imaginisce, stamps are a combo of Hero Arts, Cornish Heritage Farm & QuicKutz (plus you'll get a FREE QK stamp when you take the class!). You'll try out alcohol inks, embossing on the Epic Six and add some snowy glitter to a QK house- hope you'll join us this Thursday at 1 or 5:30pm! Classes are just $7 (or 2 for $10 all summer long)!

take it from here, Tanya...

It's official, I'm on my way to NEW YORK!!! I drive to the coast tomorrow (and hopefully get to watch my sister win a couple races as she's swimming in the BC Summer Games!) and then we fly out from Vancouver on Sunday morning... woohoo!

Tanya is going to be my official 'blog sub' while I'm away- have fun!

hot diggity dog, it's a new 3 Card Class!

Heehee... I've been dying to use this stamp for ages now, and when I noticed the hot dog die in the QK enjoy gift set, I knew it was meant to be! This colourful collection just screams summer- I hope you'll join Mom on Thursday at 1 or 5:30pm to make these 3 fun cards! The cost is just $7 (or a special price of 2 for $10 this summer!). Papers are by American Crafts, assorted dies by QK (including re-use, enjoy & the new No. 48 4x8 die), stamps by A Muse & Stampendous. So much fun!

playing with vinyl

So I leave for New York tomorrow (actually I fly out on Sunday morning... but I leave Williams Lake tomorrow!) and I have tons of info packed into my daytimer, which I really never liked- just bought it cuz I needed one, ya know? I tried crackle painting the cover, but since it was a bit glossy it flaked right off... then I had the brilliant idea to use my QK vinyl to cover it- I just cut a piece and wrapped it around, like you would with mac-tac or something. I cut a few shapes & images out with other colours of vinyl and layered them on and viola... a planner I'm happy to pull out in public :) We'll see how my little letters hold up, but it sticks great and is so easy to work with. It's fun for so much more than just walls!

This 'Oh Canada' banner is a little project Tanya and I did when the new Silhouette SD arrived- I just had to cut *something* so I pulled out the vinyl and cut the letters and the maple leaves out. The pennants are from the Revolution die. Again, I was thrilled with how great the vinyl works with paper- I think I'll be using it on alot of projects, especially when I'm working with something detailed that would otherwise be a bother to glue down. Sorry the picture is so lousy, I just wanted to snap it quick and share!

Welcoming a new Design Team member...

We're thrilled at the response we've had so far to our request for new people to pick up Design Team applications- thanks to all of you who have brought them in so far, and to those of you who are considering it... please don't hesitate! We LOVE to see your work and so do our customers! I'd like to introduce the newest member of our Design Team (though we're hardly a 'team' yet!) today. We'll be welcoming some more members (hopefully) in August!

SARAH is an eclectic scrapbooker, stamper & cardmaker who has two adorable little boys: the subject of many great photos and scrapbook pages! It's been a while since we had someone to help us showcase all the BOY products in our store, so we're happy to welcome Sarah to the team! Sarah is a big fan of QuicKutz products and she has recently started her own blog, which you can visit here: scrapsbysarah.blogspot.com. I'm sure she'd love to see you stop by!

Here's a few of Sarah's recent projects- this double page layout uses one of the July PageMaps sketches and features the Limited Edition teddy bear by QuicKutz, as well as the 'reuse' and 'yogurt' alphabets!
Sarah actually brought us this one long before she joined our design team, she did this for a challenge we had to use some recent QK releases & alphabets! I love her funky birthday cake and that she's not afraid to use flowers on a boy page ;)
Doesn't this just scream summertime? I love Sarah's use of the instant photo & ribbon border dies by QK and the bold splashes of colour! If you look close, you'll see her 'water drops' accenting the large photo.
I hope you've enjoyed 'meeting' Sarah today- please leave a comment to welcome her! You can see these layouts in person next time you stop by the store!

p.s. we'll be taking applications to join our Design Team all summer long! If the DT sounds like too much for you right now, we'd love to have EVERYONE join our Celebrations Challenge- there will be no judging, and everyone who plays will have a chance to win a $300 prize package!

QuicKutz "L" brand teasers...

QuicKutz has been sending us teasers about the 'Next Big Thing' they'll be releasing at CHA this summer... they've been VERY vague about it, telling us it's going to 'change crafting history' You can keep watch on the countdown and see upcoming teasers here.

Here's what QK is telling us:
"No one has this, but soon you and your customers will!"

"It's time to rock n' roll..." "It's the next biggest thing to hit the world of crafting."

"Big innovation is coming home, and it won't even take up your entire craftroom!"

Hm... are ya curious? Any ideas what it might be? We have been told that whatever it is, you're gonna need to get an Epic Six tool to use it (and it's NOT die cutting). We'd love to hear your thoughts! (You can still pre-order Epic Six tools in the store- the price is now $89.99. Our first shipment will be arriving soon!)

Bella in the City {and under the sea}

I had fun playing with some Bella stamps at our last midnight crop (I joined a 'mingle' on an online group I'm a part of so I *had* to do it!) and this is what I came up with! I was totally inspired to do a Bella in the City card- I've had my eye on this cityscape by Stampendous for a while now, and with my upcoming trip to New York (4 more days!) I had to snatch it up and pair it with a fun Stamping Bella image! Of course, the "Tiffany's" collection by We R Memory Keepers also screamed out to be in on the action ;) Isn't she cute? It's still up for debate whether I'll buy an "I heart NY" t-shirt while I'm there.... but I can tell you already that I'm gonna LOVE it in the city!
I was making cards for two ladies who happen to be in a stamping group together, so I knew I couldn't make the exact same card for both of them... Underwatergoddessabella (whew-that's a mouthfull!) was sitting on my table uninked, so I knew she was the right choice! I had fun with all the texture in her tail, mixing colours of my Copic markers, adding some Spica glitter and topping it off with some glossy accents!
Both cards feaure new labels die sets by Nestabilities, prima flowers and some rockin' ribbon by Fancy Pants- hope you like 'em!

Products we Love: Glimmer Mist

I thought we should feature some of our favourite products on the blog this summer... and Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels is one we're just crazy about! I sprayed a few sample colours on white prima flowers & white die cut tags to give a sampling of the sparkle & colour in person- they're so much fun on chipboard, paper, die cuts, flowers & more...
Here's a sweet layout Tanya did with Glimmer Mist- the prima flowers were white to begin with and the frame & flourishes were as well.
Glimmer Mist is getting a makeover... the new CHA release with fabulous new colours will have a fabulous new label design... Glimmer Mist is the same great product with a Fabulous NEW Look! You can purchase an assortment of colours in the store TODAY... gotta love em!

July Stamp Of The Month!

Hello Sunshine! Happy July, Happy Canada Day and Happy New SOTM! I'd like to introduce you to another fabulous set of stamps- a four seasons cube (except it's not cubed, it's clingy!) from Sunshine Designs by The Stamp Barn! This is the first time we've ordered images from Sunshine Designs, though we're no stranger to The Stamp Barn... it seemed fitting to order CANADIAN for our July SOTM, so I hope you'll enjoy it! My title is a combo of the 'enjoy' QK alphabet and the new no. 73 number set!

I personally have a 'thing' for four seasons stamps and have quite a collection of them, including some favorites by Hero Arts which I've even used to win contests in the past! I'm actually a little surprised it has taken me this long to choose one as our SOTM!

For this first card, I played with Ranger Distress Ink and a unique card size, I think it's 3.5x7, to make my design fit on a card surface- these stamps are designed to fit on a 2" cube and are each around 1.75" tall. I used a QK nesting label die and all these cards feature papers by Fancy Pants! The sentiment on this one is by Stamping Bella, as are the Bella Dots- the flower sequins are from Hero Arts.
This next card is really simple... I took an old sketch from Mojo Monday as my inspiration. The sentiment has been sitting on the shelf in the store for about 3 years LOL so I decided to give it a home! I know people are gonna want to buy it now, but.... you snooze you loose! You may be able to sweet talk us into ordering it for ya, it's by Stampabilities and I think it's perfect with the summer season stamp, which I colored with my Copics. I love the touch of the sunshiny yellow ribbon here and my new nestabilities die :)
This is a 'classic' four seasons card- I embossed each image in clear on off white cardstock then used two shades of distress ink on each square and added a touch of glitter glue. The sentiment is part of our June 2009 SOTM set. This card makes me happy, I think I'll be making more of them!
Tanya made this cheery little number with the spring season stamp! This card also features a sentiment from one of my fave sets by Cornish Heritage Farms and my new Nestabilities labels- I love that they can be layered with both circles & squares! The stitches are from a set by Clear Dollar Stamps.
Thanks for reading! I'd love to hear which card or season stamp is your favourite! I've noticed I'm choosing alot of cling mounted or clear stamps lately for a SOTM, if you're part of the group, what are your thoughts on that? Should I try to choose a wood-mounted stamp again soon, or are you liking the versatility of sets? Any requests for a stamp company I should feature in the coming months? You should know by now that I like to mix it up!
